Severe ear pain for 2 months

Posted , 2 users are following.

My 13 year old daughter had a sinus infection which took 3 antibiotics to sort out. Whilst she had the infection, she started having severe ear pain which is exacerbated at night. She literally screams with pain.

It's been 5 weeks since the infection but the pain continues.

She has seen a specialist  a few times now and he is not able to determine why she has the pain.

An MRI was done and it is clear except for some thickening of the Sphenoid sinus. She has been put of morphine for the pain but it does not help. She has now started neurotin.

Beside the ear pain - she has no other symptoms. They have even considered Trigeminal neuralgia but she has not facial pain.

Blood tests were done for autoimmune disorders, connective tissue issues etc- all clear.

She is now on pain meds throughout the day.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have no medical response to this but I work with alternative remedies (massage therapy). Perhaps you could try a Reflexologist who has studied clinical reflexology? Sometimes a person has more of an emotional response because of what they've been through and this causes physical symptoms within the body. I am not a doctor but it would be my suggestion, considering you've ruled out a lot of the medical possibilities already. Alternatively, have you gone for 2nd and 3rd opinions at the doctor? Are her eustachian tubes blocked? It's the only other possibility I could think of that could cause such severe pain (ear pressures don't stabilise).

      Thanks for the reply.

She has no visible  issues with the ear. No infections and the Eustachian tubes are clear. They keep saying it's a referred pain but no one knows where from.

We will be seeing a Neurologist this Friday.
