Severe Granuloma Annulare

i have now suffered with GA for many years and it has only got worse over time. All the creams and potions and light treatment have had no effect. Now my back is just one mass of GA and spreading around the torso. My dermatologist has spoken to specialist at hospital who performed my light treatment and they have agreed that i should try Methotrexate and folic acid. i start the Methotrexate tonight and feel really scared after reading all the reviews, warnings etc. yet i really want to try and rid myself of GA if at all possible. I know my lichen sclerosus is for life and i am coping with it. Has anyone else had any success with Methotrexate please?

    Hey Monique,

I took methotrexate for 6 months for my LS and it was amazing- with the exception of one sinus infection and one uti. I had no other real side effects and felt great day to day. If things ever flair up for me again I wouldn't bat an eyelash at taking methotrexate again! I was 15mg per week

Sorry to hear you are dealing with two skin issues. Is it connected to LS?

Are the symptoms similar in terms of itch or fissures?

No they are not really similar, The Granuloma Annulare is a skin rash that itches and is red as it errupts then it calms down but does not go. It is currently all over my back and small patches on arms.

The Lichen sclerosus is typical symptoms.

i have taken the Methotrexate for 2 weeks and got a nasty throat infection so had to stop taking it for the time being. not sure now whether it is worth continuing with it or not.
