Severe HA Right Now:(

Hey guys, I'm 19 years old and had health anxiety for a few years now. Right now, I'm super anxious. About two weeks ago I started having UTI symptoms, and got super super anxious/depressed that it would turn into something deeper (because I had it happen to a family member earlier this month). I went to the doctor a couple days later and they did a dipstick urine test -- it came out negative, and my doctor said she's not really concerned. I still had symptoms off and on (mostly just having to pee after I just pee) and those symptoms were really only there when I thought about them. Overall, the negative dipstick assured me a little....that is until a couple days ago when I read about how dipsticks can be super inaccurate. I gave a culture yesterday (still didn't get results), but I read those are inaccurate as well.

Now, I'm scared my dipstick was wrong, and what if I do have a UTI. Now, it's been two weeks, and I'm so anxious that it'll spread and turn serious. I keep checking my temperature too because I'm so scared. A few hours ago I went on a drive and I was really hot in the car (I was also wearing a heavy sweatshirt). Then, I came home and stood kind of near the oven (it was closed) and then went upstairs to check my temperature and it was 99.5. My normal range is 97.4-98.7 ish, so when I saw that I freaked. About 5-10 minutes later, my temperature returned back to its normal range.

But right now, my mind is so fixated on why my temperature increased in the first place, and I'm just worried about my UTI and if it's spreading.

temperatures can fluctuate up and down. Your temperature is not high. if you had a UTI and it was spreading, you would have other symptoms, not just having the urge to pee. it’s very possible that you are over thinking this and most of the dipstick tests are accurate.don’t get caught up in the "what if" thinking because it will drive you crazy when there is an extremely high chance that everything is fine. Just because it happened to somebody else doesnt mean it will happen to you.

try to bring down the anxiety and there’s a good chance that your symptoms will go away. Keep your mind occupied on other things . drink lots of water to flush out your system. It will make you pee more but that’s OK. It’s good to cleanse out the system once in a while. You’re going to be OK. Remember that the word fear stands for false evidence appearing real.
