Severe hip pain at 19 years old

Hello, I'm a 19 year old female and have been having some hip problems I'm concerned about.

For the last year or so when I stand out in the cold or for extended period of time I have sore, aching hips the next day.

Last Saturday I was outside in the cold and rain all day at a fair with work and since then I've struggled to walk or do anything with the pain. It's a burning, aching pain deep in the joint whether standing, sitting, walking, or lying down.

I'm an ex-ballerina and have Scoliosis so I'm wondering if they may have caused this?

I've seen a doctor who has no idea what the issue is so has ordered an X-Ray and blood tests. Though she didn't give me any idea on what she may have suspected it to be, does anyone know what it might sound like?

Hi, Megan. So sorry for all of your recent pain! If I were you, I'm assuming the doctor you saw was not an orthopedist. If that is the case, and if it were me, I'd see a good orthopedist who works with hips. They can do the x-rays in their office and tell youthe results right away, plus they know about bone/joint problems. As a former dancer, you may have damaged cartilage between the ball of your femur and the acetabulum (cup) on your hip. That would certainly explain the pain. An orthopedist who is experienced with hip problems can advise you on this!

Hope you can get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan very soon!

Thank you so much for your reply!

I've have my X-rays and will get the results in a week so hopefully will get some answers, but I will definitely be seeing an orthopaedist afterwards whether I get referred or have to do it myself.

      Thanks again!

You are welcome! I hope you will post back with the results. And I am very glad you will be seeing an orthopedist!
