Severe insomnia

Hello everyone,
I am trying to help my husband get to the bottom of his severe insomnia and am hoping someone has some ideas that we haven't tried already.
Some back story backstory. He has struggled with sleep since he was a kid but it has gotten worse over time. He is now 30. He will go days without getting one minute of sleep. A couple years ago he went 7 nights without one second of sleep. After night 4 he wasn't even able to tie his shoes and couldn't work. After night 6 he started having hilusinasions about me being a demon. (Super scary) . Doctors were very concerned and gave him all kinds of pills ranging from Ambian, lunesta, lorazepam and some others. He got into a sleep specialist within a week because of the severity. They ended up being no help. After this stent his hair started turning grey within a few weeks. We are very worried about the long term side effects of no sleep and meds. He has tried melatonin, benedrel, many various other sleep aids, limiting light exposure, lavender essential oils, acupressure, acupuncture, among some other things I can't even remember.
I'm hoping people out there have some more ideas that we haven't tried. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I had the same situation myself. I was dying, I was given high doses of Diazepam and other injections, and I lay in the hospital for 10 days, I slept well, my head calmed down a little, after that I constantly took any pills and even marijuana. It did not help. Such a pain at the head was just awful and I lay whole day and wanted to die, I was helped by the restriction of sleep. I am only five hours in bed. sorry my english is very bad.

Thank you for all the ideas. I will look into each one of them.
We aren't opposed to trying almost anything.

Wow your husband is really suffering from insomnia. Sorry to hear about it. I had it bad between September and November, I could have a few days a week with no sleep at all, it started to effect my appetite too as I was so worried about not sleeping so each night was a constant worry, my sleeping pattern is better now thank god but it's not pefect. I know you have probably heard this before but is your husband under a lot of stress? When my insomnia started I was having a lot of stress and then the insomnia added to it. I was advised to take vitamin c which lowers stress and also magnesium citrate which reduces anxiety, they have helped me sleep better but of course this could all be in the mind.
