Severe leg cramps and burning feeling in the front of both legs

Posted , 12 users are following.

Last night I was in agony nearly the whole night with severe cramps in both my legs and toes.

For a few days I have been suffering a sort of burning feeling down the front of both my legs from the knee down

I'm now on 20mg pred and trying to reduce.

I'm totally exhausted most of the time.

Hello. I have suffered from night cramp for years but since starting on Pred last September it has been much worse I get cramp every night sometimes over and over again in my feet,  toes, legs , I have tried magnesium tablets, bathing in Epsom salts, having a large glass of tonic water and a banana at bedtime, and exercising my muscles in my leg, nothing has worked . Please keep us updated on how you get on with your doctor. Good luck 😀

Thank you Jenny-rose for your feedback..

This morning I'm going to my GP , so I'll let the group know what she says...

I'm still reducing prednisone very slowly and have reached 19mg ...

I feel  a heavy feeling in my upper arms. Like my arms are a lead weight. It's not an actual pain, just very uncomfortable.

      Such a debilitating disease...

      Keep well.

Has you doctor done a blood test to check your calcium and sodium/potassium levels? They can also lead to cramp. I used to have cramp from the PMR - which improved when I was put on pred! Shows how we are all so different!

Hi Eileen,  thanks for your input.  I am going to GP surgery tomorrow for a routine blood test [ crp  and sed rate]  I will request extas / calcium/sodium/potassium//magnesium and see how I get on  I have a feeling I asked about magnesium once in the past - have a feeling I was fobbed off. I will let you know how I fare this time.

Hi Eileen. Thanks for the feedback. No I haven’t had a blood test, when I come home from my holiday I’ll see my doctor and ask him for a blood test , I honestly thought that the cramp was something that I had to put up with as I long as I was on the Pred .

No - really almost all side effects can be managed when you know how. And GPs who suggest they can't are a bit lazy!
