severe memory loss and not sure how to approach my doctor.

Morning, for years I have wanted to go to my doctor and request a mri or similar to see why my brain doesn't record my life. Imagine turning on a laptop doing a full days work but after you switch it off aand back on all your work has been erased! That is the same as my situation where my brain just isnt working. Im worried about going to see a doctor about it in case they dont understand what I am telling them. I expect they would just tell me to try some memory games (which I have done) and not really help me in getting to the truth behind whats going on inside My head.

    hiya,

i think you should go to your doctor straight away, google transient global amnesia, my brother had episodes very similar to what you describe, as far as i know there was nothing sinister going on and the prognosis is good, let us know how you go on.cheesygrin

How did your brother approach the subject with his doctor? How long did it take for the doctor to refer him to a specialist? Also does your brother suffer mind numbing headaches?

    Thanks for your reply.

Can i also add that my father is an ms sufferer but i have no idea if that is related.

what initially happened was he was expecting a tradesman to replace a cracked toilet pan in his bathroom on a certain date, when his wife got home from work he complained to her that the guy hadn't shown up and hed been waiting all day, when his wife went to the bathroom she said the toilet had been replaced, apparently my brother had made the guy a cup of tea, chatted to him etc, as far as i know to this day he still has no recollection of the guy being there, it unnerved him to say the least.

all he did was go along to his GPs and told the doc what had happened, the doc arranged a scan which was carried out more or less straight away, they didnt hang about and they took it from there, as far as i know he didnt have any blinder headaches as such, im not in touch with him any more so im afraid i cant give you any more info.

get yourself to your docs theres nothing to it cheesygrin

I am back at the doctors today (13th) for blood tests. Depending on the results I was told I may be referred to a neurologist

Why did you take so long to see the doctor? It's a shame you could not get yourself there before as you have had a lot of possibly unnecessary worry. Hope it works out.

I haven't had the best doctors in the past and they have pretty much fobbed me of four whatever reason. Not only that but I have been concerned about getting tested for ms as my father suffers from it. It wasn't am easy conversation explaining to the doctor why I should be considered for a scan when the nhs is suffering financially

You are just as entitled to be helped as anyone else. Think of all the malingerers out there, they are the ones who should stay away. The NHS is not short of money, it is badly targeted. Don't think you are not worth the trouble, you are!

Hi there, it would be nice to know how you got on? smile

Just waiting on the blood results now... Could be up to a week I'm told. If nothing is untoward in the blood results I have to go back to my doctor who in turn will refer me to a neurologist

This may not be related to you BUT I have Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) it causes the me

to have the same kind of Memory Problems along with other things. Is it possable that a Brain Injury of some kind happened?

Time for an update, I went back to the doctors after my blood results and they are now testing my blood for the presence of lead since its a poisonous material I work with. If that comes back normal I will be reverted to a neurologist for more tests
