Severe pain after peroneal tendon surgery

I had peroneal tendon surgery one week ago. After the surgery I had serve pain in the ankle. It felt like the tendon was constantly in a state of cramp. After 4 days the pain got better. Then the next day the pain came back. I think I was not elevating it enough. I also slipped on my crutches and landed on my injured foot. I am really concerned that I have damaged the ankle further or messed up the surgery.

Has anyone else experienced cramp pain in the ankle? Especially when walking on crutches?

Has anyone else accidentally step on their injured foot when it was meant to be non weight baring?

What were other people's experiences of their recovery post surgery?

Thanks

Sam

hi! i had peroneal tendon repair about 19 days ago ( but who's counting)! for the first two weeks I had a ton of pain, it felt like someone was stabbing me and ripping my tendon out. I made sure to take the pain meds before the nerve block wore off and took them religously for the first week.

I got the splint off at 10 days post op and when they took it off I had worst charlie horses of my life and it lasted about 25 minutes! I am

now in the hard cast and the swelling has reduced significantly and the pain is now more nerve pain ( which really sucks) planning on getting on gabapentin at the next visit! I also only take the percocet to sleep and am taking a ton of tylenol during the day.

I did go back to work once I got the cast, which was probably way too soon but I didn't have any PTO so... Like you I don't elevate it very much but I can say that when I do on the weekends the swelling and pain are much less!

I did have a fall at work today and landed on my bad leg, when I fell it felt I was being shocked and it almost felt my leg was asleep! I am not

using crutches, I am way too clumsy so I use a knee scooter which has been a life saver, since I still wont be weight bearing for another few weeks. This recovery has been a little more intense than I had anticipated! Every night I try and tell myself that it's all going to get better soon and that hopefully the surgery worked.

I hope that your recovery gets better and the pain stops soon, make sure not to rush things, let your body heal at its own pace. good luck!!
