Severe pain from ankle ulcers

I have 2 ulcers on inside of left ankle. I have had 4 layer compression bandages on for weeks now. It's not getting any better. It's the pain i can't cope with. Stabbing nerve pains keep me awake at night. When i get up in the morning the morning i can't put pressure on my foot to walk. I can't bend my foot . It feels like my skin is actually splitting open. I take co dydramol and ibuprofen straight away but they take a while to kick in. It's usually about 2 hours before i can walk without being in agony. It all starts again if i sit down at any time during the day. Thinking of taking the bandages off. The pain wasn't this bad when i was wearing compression stockings. The nurse just tells me to try and persevere. I don't think can , the pain is taking over my life and wearing me out. Does anyone else suffer similar pain from ankle ulcers?

Hi Maureen, I am so very sorry that you are suffering so much. I deal with chronic pain from nerve damage. The pain just plain wets you out, it takes away our real selves. I think you might want to connect with a pain specialist. They might have a better understanding of the necessity of adequate medication to help you cope with your condition. I encourage you to seek more help from your doctor, do not feel quilty to seek more medication help. If your Dr does not help you ask for them to get you in to see a pain Dr! Be accertive Maureen, you deserve to have the best quality of life possible. Good luck and I am sending a hug your way. I also want to acknowledge the courage it takes every day all day to deal with this kind of issue. I am proud of you for getting by the best that you can under these conditions. 🕊🌷

Hi. Thanks for replying. What medication are you on for nerve pain? Was it gabapentin? I was given gabapentin for back pain and sciatica last year. 1200mg x 3 times a day. That's 3600 a day. I took them for as long as i could but stopped after a few weeks. I couldn't stand the side effects. I felt so dizzy and light headed i thought i was living in another world. They also made me extremely tired all the time. It wasn't the best way to get through the day. They did actually help a little with the sciatica though. The nurse says compression bandages are the best way to heal ulcers but i have read that wearing 2 pairs of compression stockings can work just as well. I never had this much pain with ulcers before.

Hi again, I am on oxymorophone 5mg, cymalta, Percocet (for break-thru pain). I do not know what meds work best for your issues. These meds are for damaged nerve pain. I hate side effects but need the help. There seems there is no miracle medication, or procedures that are ideal I have had them all. I am grateful the meds, without them I would be unable to function at all. 🌷
