Severe ripping/burning paid 11 months post Hysterectomy

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had my full hysterectomy in March 2017, and have noticed that from about 6 weeks after my op, I get like a ripping and burning sensation in my left lower abdomen, although it has been painful, it has not been so severe and is a re-occurring pain, however I turned over last night in bed and the pain was so severe that it felt like someone had literally grabbed me and was ripping me apart from the inside, I could not sit up, my husband had to help me sit up and is still very tender this morning.  I have asked my district nurse at the doctors who has not advised very much but the pain was so excruciating this time that I am now a little concerned as to why this is happening.

    Hello Caroline

Although I just had my full hysterectomy 3 days ago and so far I have no pain like you are experiencing,  I feel compelled to say something.  Get a second opinion from another doctor if you can.  Maybe you have developed a hernia?  Who knows?  Good luck finding out what’s going on.  It’s got to be frustrating not getting answers.

Hi Karen, thank you for your response, it had never even occurred to me that this maybe a possibility, I have now booked an appointment for my doctors to get this looked into, as I have only just finished my cancer treatment so need to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.

You might have developed scar tissue and adhesions from your surgery--or developed a hernia.  Best to see a doctor and get yourself checked out.  xx

Thanks Lynda, I have now booked an appointment as the pain has not gotten that bad before and now when I cough, sneeze or bend it is very tender, hopefully they can get this dealt with quickly smile

I hope so, too. I had surgery 2/28. Am just home from hospital. Let me know how you get on! xx

Hi Lynda, I also had total abdominal hysterectomy on 2/28/18. How are you feeling.

?I am trying to figure things out also.

This surgery was for an encapsulated tumor in the muscle wall of my lower left abdomen. To remove it & three lymph nodes in my lower right groin. Had my TAH in 7/2016. They will tell you that "sometimes" cancer cells migrate during a DaVinci procedure. Ha ha. So if you don't feel back to health, let them know!

I was staged at 1A, so nothing further necessary. I found the tumor in 8/17. Had 6 chemos 1 each month, recovered for 8 weeks, & had the op on 2/28. Hospital did their best  to kill me--but I'm home now, thank God!

Fell glad I'm home. Will help in any way I can.xx

      Hi Lynda

I went for my first cancer cehck up last week and discussed the problem I have been having, they are no going to contact my surgeon to ask as they are pretty sure it is not linked to the cancer, but to the surgery.  Am now waiting to hear back on how they want to proceed with this and hopefully get it sorted out.

Thanks for letting me know.  I do hope it works out! Please let me know how you get on, won't you?

As for me--I've been home for a little over 2 weeks, and my belly remains swollen, stiff and painful.  I got the 2nd drain out last Friday.  I guess I just have to keep reminding myself that recovery is going to take a long time--more than 6 weeks. xx

    Hi Caroline,

Best make a doctor appointment and get checked out. I have had issues with a dragging/pulling sensation -10 months post-op - have been referred for colonoscopy - as doc suspects adhesions. Anything that causes that much pain needs checked out. Good luck -please let me know how you get on.

      Hi Glennie

I am being referred back to my surgeon as they are convinced it is from the surgery, so am not waiting to hear back from them to see what they want to do next, I am hoping that a non invasive scan will give them a clearer picture and maybe get it sorted out.
