Is it JUST shoulder and arm pain? You say you suffer with pain daily - only that or anything else? And about how old are you?

How long have you had fibromyalgia? My question was because shoulder and arm pain are typical of PMR, polymyalgia rheumatica, which is often confused by GPs with fibro but they are different according to the people I know who have both. PMR often (but not necessarily) also involves the hips. The BIG difference is that PMR responds to corticosteroids, fibro doesn't. But even if you just get rid of SOME of the pain it helps!

However, ask your physio if it could be a frozen shoulder which physio may help. I know people who have had frozen shoulder who got a lot of benefit from Bowen therapy. But I will also say that frozen shoulder is a not uncommon way for PMR to present - so bear it in mind.

Good luck with the physio tomorrow.

You would have been very young then for PMR - but we are slowly getting doctors to accept that there are probably much younger people with it who are being given the wrong labels: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression etc.

I do hope your GP gets their act together - handing out naproxen is a bit pathetic! I would want to see a rheumatologist - one who can see past an existing diagnosis of fibromyalgia and look if there is anything else going on.

Good luck - and do tell me if they find anything that helps.

hi Jill, I'm so sorry for all the pain you are having. If they do not have you diagnosed for the reasons for your pain, why are they sending you to a pain clinic? I know that you need relief from your pain, but you should take Eileens advice and see a rheumatologist. Really. There may be much more out there to help see you through this. Fight for yourself. It is so difficult to find the help these days that a patient needs because there are so many specialists and a person needs to be their own advocate. Wishing you the best. Please keep us posted as to how you are doing.
