Severe UTI

Hello 35F. I developed seering razor blade pain at the end of urinating on July 7th. I wouldn't describe it as burning and it only occurred at the very end of my urine stream. It was very very intense but I didn't have urgency or frequency. There was off and on cloudiness but most often when I wasn't drinking much. There were occasions of smaller urine output but not consistently. I have never had a symptomatic UTI before and have not been sexually active. I decided to give it a week before calling my doctor. It really hurt at the end of peeing but still never any urgency or frequency. My vulva developed some soreness and itching so my doctor thought it was a yeast infection. I tried over the counter meds for that and nothing really changed. I noticed that I'd have some days that it improved dramatically and seemed to be okay. I figured it was getting better. I have bad reactions to antibiotics so my doc tries not to prescribe them and the itching made us think it was either vaginal or endometriosis. I have an appointment on Tuesday. I started having the pain again yesterday after about 3 days of feeling better.

I have no signs of a kidney infection. It's pretty much pain at the end of peeing and occasional cloudiness with itching. Sometimes intense itching. Could I have a kidney infection and not know it? If this is a bladder infection, it has been left untreated for almost a month. Is that going to damage my bladder? or kidney? I was we made to think a kidney infection would cause obvious sickness. Sorry for the novel. Thanks

I do Hydrion PH urine strips when I pee as my urine tends to be acidic.

As I finish urinating I stick a wees bit of PH strip in it to get a reading. If it burns I can pretty well be sure the PH strip will register in the 5's - very acidic.

That tells me I haven't drunk enough water (my new goal is 50-60 oz per day.) The more water - the more the acid is neutralized.

Various things we eat or drink can irritate the bladder, also, like coffee, spicy foods, sugar, alcohol, etc.

I have stayed away from coffee and sugar easily but I do like a glass of wine at night. Then I know I have to be sure my water intake is up there to balance the acidity of the wine. My doctor says 2 glasses of water to every glass of wine.

Regarding the itching....have you been checked out for lichen sclerosis? Its a white patchiness in the vulva that causes pain and intense itching.

If you take a magnifying mirror and have a look down there you may see white or silvery patches if you have LS.

I have vaginal atrophy which can start even in peri menopause and LS although a very mild case of the latter as it was caught early.

I hope this helps you a little bit.

You need to make sure if you have UTI by doing UTI test, for which you could buy AZO UTI test tablets over the counter. The causes of UTI could vary. Because you are sexually inactive, yeast infection could cause UTI. You are right to have tried anti yeast infection Meds. At the same time, try to wash outside the vagina with the diluted white vinegar, and drink tons of water. Don't drink any sweet drink because sweets are the perfect food for bacteria. If you are not allergic to antibiotic ointment, you can put some to the entrance of urinary tract. For a long run, you may take some probiotics for vaginal health, that you can find over the counter. The unbalanced PH of the vagina could also cause UTI. Apple vinegar also could help. Hope you are getting better.
