Sex triggers HSV1 genital breakouts! HELP!

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have recently been diagnosed with hsv1 and now every time I have sex I have a breakout after. I understand that the friction is the most likely cause of the breakout but my question is how likely it is that I will pass it on during protected and unprotected sex if I am breaking out 1-2 days after? I can’t find any help in my online searches! I’m stressing!

Talk to your Doctor about suppression therapy, where you take a pill to keep from spreading.

I've not encountered this exact problem before on this forum, so it's unusual. Condoms only offere very incomplete protection from herpes, so dont rely on them. If you are getting the outbreaks that frequently it would be worth taking antivirals regularly to supress the virus.

I saw my dr today. Got on suppression therapy.  She couldn’t tell me much more than that other than to stop worrying about things that are beyond my control. I’m stressing big time I have passed this on!

Jade don't worry suppression therapy  will stop it from spreading, during a out break just wait three weeks that third week it shed's.

Yes sex can bring on a outbreak. best to wait until it heals before going again, as time go's on the outbreaks should get better and further apart, it is very stress full, but you must remember stress can also trigger it.

I'm glad you got the ssuppression therapy. It only works to a partial extent but should help your symptoms and reduce (but not completely eliminate) the viral shedding during outbreaks.

One thing that is under your control is to have a conversation with your partner about all this. Best to be open and I think you will feel better having discussed it.

If it is triggered by sex so dont worry about your partner.

Just dont have sex if you feel something wrong before sex.
