hello! i was diagnosed with HSV2 a few months ago and i just recently got a new partner. he is my first since my diagnosis, is there any advice youd give me to lower my chance of potentially transmitting herpes to him? is it still safe (i i know there is still a risk but is it discouraged?) for him to perform oral sex on me? We plan to use condoms but is there anything else. I want to be as cautious as possible

Are you on Valtrex? Daily use of Valtrex is supposed to cut the odds of transmission down 50%.

HSV2 doesn't transmit orally as often as HSV1 but yes there is always a chance that you can transmit it to him because you can shed unknowingly without any symptoms. It's best to go on antivirals and to use protection , and refraining from oral sex but most importantly always have open conversations with your partners beforehand. Well wishes.
