I am on week 3 of taking sertraline and still have the shakes, does this ever go away?

Also does anyone know if the sertraline is a different brand or is the packaging different?

    Hi...

I had the shakes like you & headaches into week 4,was definitely starting to see some benefits by then also though.

By week 5 I had little or no side affects other than tiredness in the later part of the day but I can handle that.

I'm into week 10 & I basically don't know ive taken them anymore if you know what I mean...can't shift the tiredness but I have a demanding job & ridiculously early morning starts so maybe that explains that. I've also been prescribed two different brands & I didn't notice any difference-I live in Sweden so the brands differ a bit out here to the UK but I'm pretty sure they are all the same ingredients & chemicals. Hope this helps Colin

    Hi,

I have experienced a slight tremor in my hands that can come and go so I hope this settles down for you soon. People have shared on this forum how a change in brand can adversely affect them so if one brand does work well for you, try and get it from the same pharmacist each time and stick to it. We are all different though and can react in many ways to the drug chemicals. Hopefully you will start to feel the benefit which will outweigh the side effects. If not, don't be afraid to discuss a change in meds with your doctor until you find one which works well for you.

    All the best, Digsby

So the change in brand is affecting people with shakiness? I am hoping it passes soon as well as other side effects, I've been on sertraline before but can't remember the side effects lasting this long before. How long have u been on it for?

      Thanks for replying.

      Hi buddy,

I'm 13 weeks and counting. Some people are more sensitive to some brands than others. A change for some might not make any difference but for others it could spell some nasty side effects out of the blue. We are all different. It may be that you were on a different brand before so if you can find one that has fewer side effects, try to stick with it and check your pharmacist always has it (or try another pharmacist). People can experience the shakes whichever brand they take - it just comes with the territory and like all side effects, some will settle down and others will not outweigh the benefits you get from taking it. That's the time to consult your doctor and investigate an alternative. But you need to give this particular one at least 8 weeks to know that you're not throwing away the opportunity of something that will help you long-term. Depression and anxiety makes us desperate for a "quick fix" but there rarely is one. It's a battle that does get easier over time. Stay strong and don't give up hope. Always support here for you if you need it.

Yes I was on the other brand before and it did work, but I sm on a lower dosage this time round so that might be why.

I am trying to stay positive, was going to go back to work today, but got myself in a right state that I couldn't bring myself to, why is anxiety so hard to control, doing my head in that I can't control my body over my head.

I'm due back to work on Thursday after a 5 month break (2 of those months were on a med that gave me unbearable side effects but my psychiatrist encouraged me to persevere with it in case the benefits outweighed the downside). Don't beat yourself up about not getting back to work. I'm certain they would much rather you go back when you feel strong enough and not while you are still struggling to find your daily rhythm. It's a good idea to give the Sert a bit more time to work. In the meantime, distract yourself with whatever makes you feel more positive and confident. You will get there soon mate :-)

Hope Thursday goes well hun, I know how hard it is to want to go back to work but can't because of the side effects.

I will keep at them, thinking of upping my dosage though as don't feel they are working as well as they should. I've been off for 3 weeks so far and was supposed to go back today but I got so anxious I couldn't do it sad

So glad of this forum to speak to people who are going through the same as me.

      Thanks for replying smile x

Thanks so much for your support. Fingers crossed that the cake I've made will go down well with my work colleagues (that doesn't count as a bribe does it?!) I'll let you know how I get on :-)

I don't know what I would have done in the last 5 months if it weren't for the support of this forum. Thank you all :-)

Ah that's okay, no not at all, who doesn't like cake!! Hope today is going well for you.

I went back to the doctors yesterday and because I've been getting horrible side effects and anxiety is worse the doctor advised I go on Venlafaxine, so now to wait two days before I start taking them and got another two weeks off work. I hate this i just wanna be better sad I was going to up my dosage but doctor said might be better to change meds so I can get back to work quicker because if I up my dosage I will feel even worse because of the heightened side effects sad

I survived my 1st day back at work (and deep down I know I am very fortunate to have a job I enjoy). I hope the Venlafaxine works well for you - I've read quite a few people do well on it (although it didn't work for me)

All the best. Keep in touch :-)
