Sharing my positive story... ❤️

I have previously posted on this page looking for advice. I am now so grateful to be where I am. I had a large fibroid which caused me huge amounts of bleeding. It was draining and I was hating life. I was told I may need a hysterectomy and was very upset! Eventually, I was given injections to shrink my fibroid (temporary menopause) and this worked better than I ever would have imagined. I know this doesn't suit everyone but I didn't have any side effects so clearly I was lucky. I get quite annoyed when I see people on here constantly telling people that they should not need their fibroid shrunk before surgery etc. It worked for me and I'm very grateful it did. After it shrunk, I had a myomectomy (through the NHS, I am in Scotland). After my last injection, I got one period and then fell pregnant instantly. I am now 13 weeks pregnant and my scan shows no signs of any fibroids... And a healthy, active baby! At 36, I am very grateful that I am in this position and just wanted to share that it can be done!
Good luck to everyone in their fibroid journey. Always seek second opinions if you are unhappy and stay positive.

So happy for your blessing and I wish you the best memories of pregnancy & motherhood. I am also thinking of trying to get pregnant (2nd time) once I am fully healed from my Surgery. Also don't get upset with people's views of the world. Their views reflect their valid experiences. It is what worked or did not work for them or others they know. Does not mean the same experience will be replicated in others. What I get out of this site is the learning about the diversity in approaches. Enjoy motherhood!

Thanks! This is my second child as well, I have a teenager already! I know people have different experiences but my point is, if I had listened to these people, I wouldn't have went down the route I did and it honestly could not have worked better for me. I realise that isn't the case for everyone however but I feel sometimes people are too forceful with their opinions (probably from a good place as they don't want other people to go through the same hard times) but... Everyone is different and our bodies all respond differently to different treatments. I love how supportive people are on this group however and I am so glad I found this page!! All the best to you in your journey ??

So great to hear your story, thank you so much for sharing. I had my myomectomy in January, and they removed a huge fibroid. I'm 33, hoping to have a baby in the next few years. Love to all you strong ladies xxx

Hi @ColTheDoll
Congratulations on ur pregnancy. I'm recently married 33 year old woman who has multiple fibroids 5-6 in number and most of them in size of 5*6 cm. My Gyneacologist suggested myomectomy (not laparoscopic but open myomectomy ) . Can u tell me how was ur myomectomy experience ? Did u also make lifestyle and diet changes to deal with fibroids? Did u have to wait after myomectomy to get pregnant .?

Hi... My myomectomy was a little different as I had submucosal fibroid. So it was totally non invasive. I had it done via hysteroscopy. I'm assuming even keyhole would require a lot more recovery time than mine did. However, I can easily say that the result of not having the fibroid is amazing. Submucosal fibroids cause the most bleeding and mine was absolutely horrific. Also, because my fibroid was 12cm,the pressure pain was awful. I had a lot of pressure on my bowel and I would cry in my sleep and everything. Nothing seemed to help or slow the bleeding. I took norethisterone for a few months which stopped the bleeding for a while but it was obviously a temporary measure and only masked the problem. I know lots of people have babies with fibroids but again, the type of fibroids I had, was the worst kind for affecting fertility and causing miscarriage. So I really didn't feel like I had a choice. I believe after laproscopic surgery, you'd need to wait a few months for healing before you try for a baby. I'm sure your consultant would confirm how long. Wishing you lots of luck with your journey! Keep us posted ??
