Sharp bowel pain

3 weeks post all 3 repaired, yesterday and today I've had sharp stabbing pains straight through my repairs when anything moves through my bowel 😣 it's so intense my pelvic floor slams shut & it takes some serious will power to open things up again and let it through. Wind or poo 😣 I'm not constipated at all so it can't be that, no bleeding just the odd spot which they said was normal until all stitches have dissolved so I don't think I've damaged my repair/bust a stitch. & its only there when something moves through. Otherwise I feel ok. Has anyone else had this?! My specialist/surgeon is 5 hour drive away 😣 I've always had a little pain/discomfort when things move but not like this

After surgery my bowels went on strike. Fortunately my appetite was pretty dimished, but after 7 days I started getting proactive fruit fiber natural laxatives and finally 10 days out things started to move. I am sure that at least part of the problem was how tense I was. Even now with things working before and after pains along the anterior repair. I read somewhere that doing some relaxing exercises help both physically and mentally. And seem to be helping me work through the process

Did it get better then worse again? I have been fine (well, as fine as you can be I guess) since surgery, still on the same dose of movicol that's keeping me moving but not too fast, I thought I'd turned a corner until this! I was finally starting to be able to without too much discomfort on the perenium stitches!! & now this!!

Hi Tam, I did and still occasionally do have this happen.  The pain is excruciating as is the BM when this happens, but quickly dissipates once the bowel is empty.  And like you, doesn’t seem to be associated with constipation.  The only thing I can figure is perhaps it might be related to nerve healing.  I am 7+ weeks out from A&P with TOT.  Wishing you all the best.

It's annoying that things like this come & go, how are we ever supposed to know if something is a symptom!? It stopped me in my tracks walking towards the loo this morning because I knew it was coming & I was doubled over for a few seconds because things were on the move 😭 I didn't think about nerve recovery, I thought something like that would have been painful from the beginning? Is there anything you did to find relief? Ibuprofen maybe? But it's so intermittent!! Glad to hear I don't have to rush back to my surgeon though, thanks for sharing 🤗

Hi Tam, I had this experience. There's so much bruising and swelling internally, it's only to be expected. I'm 7 weeks out now and doing great, but the first 4-5 weeks were very uncomfortable for me. I had anterior and posterior repair.

I'm so glad I don't need to rush all the way back to my surgeon, thanks for sharing 🤗 was there anything that helped you find relief? Heat packs or anything? I'm not on any pain medication at the moment, the odd Paracetamol or ibuprofen it's so intermittent & no way of knowing it's coming! Was it from the beginning for you or did it come on later? 7 weeks sounds so far away 😭

Was it ever related to doing too much?

    Hi Tam,

My uro gyn told me to stay on round the clock ibuprofen/Tylenol combo for the first 4-6 weeks.  Due to a separate shoulder sgy at week four...I am still on round the clock anti-inflammatory at week 7 and will be for many more weeks.  Thankful my GI tract seems to be doing ok with it and I’m sure it must help decrease the frequency of the “attacks”.  It might be worth trying...but you should keep it on a scheduled administration for optimal effect.  Honestly the only thing that brought relief when an episode was in full swing was to have the BM.  I have literally had to do labor type breathing (as in vaginal birth) and sat on commode praying for relief and not to pass out.  I hope you get better...I would suggest you to try the scheduled ibuprofen to see if it helps and stay on a stool softener.

Yes I might give this a go thank you 🤗 I was not given any instructions on pain relief afterwards I was just told to take as needed! I'm going to up my movicol too, to make those BM faster & over & done with 🤞 hopefully this combo can get me some relief

Fingers crossed that the combo is helping!

The pain comes and goes now, I think it's related to doing too much 🙈 my first "attacks" started after mothersday when I did more than usual) & slowly subsided over the week, & I had a big day today low & behold tonight it was back 🙈 i hope it doesnt hang around for a week again!! the extra movicol is helping in the sense that It's over and done with faster, the pain killers seem to help a little
