sharp lower back pain after hip replacement 5 months ago, any suggestions?

Posted , 6 users are following.

Went back to work 3 months after and lower back pain will not leave. My chiropractor says it stems from the new hip. To me it feels like a nerve is being irritated. He adjusts me and it feels good for short period but goes back. Do not know who to see for correct answer. Can anyone help?

Surprised he has not checked sacro iliac joint? Ask him/her.. They will move/slide it to see if any impingement.

Hello, I'm very interested in this as my GP said my back problem was my sacroiliac, he gave me a steroid injection but it hasn't done any good, can I ask what you mean by "slide it?" Is this quite common after THR? X

      Hello Jackie,

"Slide" was the manipulation and term  my physio used to see if it was OK or not.  Check out on this Forum amng the Hip ection on Sacro Liliac dysfunction... lots of info there.  In the end my SI joint was OK and all my problems are from abductor and iliopsoas groups. Hoping my fix will be done on 3rd March after my cortisone jab(s). Then after that I will be 100% as my THR was/is fine..just the **** muscles!

Thank you so much for your reply, I too am not sure what my problem is, I have an incredibly tight muscle that runs all the way across the top of my leg (above the thigh) so it could be that but I will check out the other forum as you suggested, what does your "fix" involve? X

My physion said it was tendonitis and mscle strain and I had a lot of swelling at top of thigh which had not been there before. So went to GP, he concurred with the assessment and prescribed anti-inflammatory 2 weeks. No effect.  So then referred back to consultant. After a ****** up wih first appt on 5th Jan, eventually saw him 2 weeks later and he agreed with me cortisone injection into tendons and muscle and wanted to do it himself.... wants me off the books I reckon..!!    I just need it to reduce the inflammation so body can start to repair itself....  I HOPE!  Watch this space????

There could be any number of reasons for the nerves to be agitated.  You should really go back and see your surgeon.  He may want an MRI just to check.

hope you are soon pain free.    Good luck!     Regards. Sue

    Hi

I would think that you should make an appointment with the surgeon/consultant

An MRI will show up a lot of things......better be safe than sorry

oh gosh do I know how your feeling! I'm 9 months post op, I too went back to work after 3 months and my back pain now is worse than my hip pain was prior to my op, in my case I had a shorter leg length discrepancy from birth so I have always been a bit wonky, now post op my surgeon has given me a bit of extra leg length and I'm finally walking straight and I think my back just doesn't want to adjust to the new me, but what to do about it? My GP gave me a steroid injection into my sacroiliac joint but it hasn't given me any relief, I'm off to see my consultant next week, I would suggest you do the same, I feel I need to know exactly what's wrong before I know how to go about treating it as I simply can't keep paying out for chiropractors etc all the time, best of luck x
