Sharp pain when sitting

I am 5 1/2 months out from tlhr. I have been doing quite well and pain was pretty much gone. About two weeks ago I started to have a sharp pain down my left side... seems to happen when i sit on a low chair or cross my left leg over my right to tie shoes etc. Is this something to be concerned about?

I was told not to cross legs as I had a cementless hip. I have pain on sitting from swelling and lesions pushing on nerves. maybe you have a trapped nerve. It took me 7 months before I could sit on a lower chair so maybe it is just too early as we all heal at different speeds.

I was told not to cross my legs too, as I have an uncemented hip. Did you have cement?

I was given a sheet when I left hospital with the type of hip I had and a whole load more info about the op, surgeons comments, drugs I should take etc. Did you get something like that? It should tell you if the hip is cemented or not. I even have it mentioned on my local surgery notes.

HI Carol,
sounds like sciatica which come from your spine.
i had a THR LEFT side 4 months ago and now have same down my right side.
Surgeon took an xray which showed my pelvis is now tilted which is effecting my spine.
My new hip has made my leg approx 1cm longer which may have exacerbated it.
Any way I can not walk comfortably or properly without crutches unfortunately.
see your GP for advice .
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Carol,
I do not think it is a good idea to cross your legs especially this soon after your op. I did not sit in low chairs either, I kept a cushion in the car just in case a chair was too low. looking after the hip in the early days I think is a hood idea to hopefully be problem free later.

Dear all
I had cannulated hip screw surgery to fix my broken hip. l had 3 screws inserted in my hip to fix the hip bone. At 47 years old my surgeon said that i m too young for hip replacement. its been 8 months since my operation. I do physio exercises daily and hydrotheraphy once a week. l walk without crutches indoors and i use crutches at times when outdoors as i m still a bit scary of stairs and steepy pavements. My problem is that i still have start up pain( when i stand up from sitting). It is really annoying me as I cant get rid of the crutches completely. My PT says its normal it will go away by time, my surgeon says the same. But will it ever go away? Will I ever be able to stand up and walk normaly without limping for the first few minutes? Has someone experienced the same thing after quite a long period? Thank u
