Sharp pin prick sensation in toes

Posted , 12 users are following.

Hello all,

I am wondering if any of you have experienced / experiencing an odd pin /needle prick sensation? It is not the usual pins and needles or numbness, but feels like being stuck with a needle suddenly. It is a sharp pain, short and right now happening only in my left big toe.

Can this be menopause related? I am only finding neuro related posts, but no hits (or found only one) meno related pin prick pain.

Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing anything similar...and how did you deal with it. I dont know if I need to get this checked up or not...

Help!

Hi Lori, I checked mortons neuroma - it is a pain between the 3rd and 4th toe. I have this pain / pin prick feeling on top of my big toe - like after the toe nail, so its not the same.

😦 I will try checking some more.

Btw...I dont wear flip flops...live in a very cold place, so that is not even an option πŸ˜ƒ

hi prat - ok, this is weird...i just started getting this only in my right big toe. At first i thought maybe i stubbed my toe or had a infected cuticle, but nothing - For me, it comes & goes & is not constant, but it does peak my attention. i have had the tingling extremities, electric shock sensation & burning & even vibrations, but this is different. i have to say for me, my nervous system has gone haywire since i started post menopause.

HI, I get this too. For me, it happened when my hypothyroidism was undertreated and resolved when my meds were increased. have you had your thyroid hormones checked?

Pratt it get that same prick in both my big toes but at different times and periodically. It is not ongoing but will just happen from time to time and doesn't last long. I just start to ignore the symptoms and try not to worry if it is related to any disease or illness. Anyone with mild joint pains more throbbing than real pain?

So the strange thing is that it now seem to have disappeared today. I woke up in the morning expecting more needle point pain, but nix!

I guess it was me walking a long time in somewhat tight shoes (by the way my "usual" shoes that have of late become somewhat uncomfortable!). But no pain now. Now I'm presented with pain in the hip bone/nerve, so its one thing or the other!

S...I..G...H!!! When will this nightmare end? I hate being the complaining witch that I seem to be becoming! 😦

I just posted to ask everyone about a vibrating feeling in my left big toe. Mine isn't a pin prick, it's just an off and on vibration. In a rhythm every fee seconds. It's so annoying!

I'm experiencing it right now between my 3rd and 4th toe, right foot, on the topside, half way below the nail, just about on the knuckle. its comes and goes, but with quite a painful jolt of, almost like a lightning pain from a single pin, but the size of a nail, and i just hada look, and it looks as tho a needle did in fact puncture my skin, and is now feeling still extremely painful and somewhat itchy, very uncomfortable.

I'm a Male, so this cannot be from menopause, did you happen to find out anything more about what this is, or what it might be? I find this extremely odd, I've never felt this sensation ever before, and I'm 36 today in fact.. very strange uncomfortable and painful feeling.

      Happy birthday!

Nope, I never found the cause of my foot / toe pain. It just kind of went off on its own, but I have other pain / tingling and tight sensation in foot (for me only left foot) that just comes and goes.

As I have other menopause symptoms that demand more anxiety, I am at present ignoring the foot issues.

In any case, it seems that meno is a horrible time for many women. Good that you dont have to worry about it!

Hi, I'm not sure if it's at all related to your case, but I have a back problem that puts pressure on my sciatic nerve which causes me to occasionally feel the pain you described, so it might be worth talking to your doctor about your back and seeing if there's anything there that could be contributing to it.
