Sharp, shooting, shock pain in left side of chest....anxiety?

I have posted in here before and everyone is so helpful and awesome... so here it goes.

I have been getting on and off sharp, shooting, shock like chest pains in the left side right near my left breast. The sharp pain will come for a second and be annoying and painful and then it'll disappear. It's on and off. It started earlier when I was at the physical therapist, and I did feel myself getting anxious and nervous when it happened. It went away while I was there and when I got home...then I ate and it started up again.

I am dealing with a thoracic disc herniation that's pushing against my spinal cord, which I would assume will cause certain shock-like feelings in certain places of the body. But I have to say, feeling this is making me INCREDIBLY nervous. I keep thinking I am going to die of a heart attack. Has anyone felt these types of sharp pains from anxiety? I do not know how to tell the difference between anxiety and an actual heart problem.

I don't have any other symptoms, some sensations in my leg and also my right shoulder but it came and went. My heart seems to be beating fine and I can breathe. The chest pains just really bothered me. It's a pretty terrifying feeling if anyone has ever felt this before also! rolleyes

    I know this is an older post but just wondered if you guys finally got rid of this..

    I'm having a lot of problems wth chest pain on the left side between my shoulder and peck area which is quite distressing as I fear my heart health straight away ( I have thoughts of my heart just stopping for some reason)

    I also have stomach issues feeling bloated and tender to press. Just been given omeprozole to try. Would you say the chest pain is gas related

      Just wondering if anyone has the sharp shooting pain on their left side of chest directly behind left breast. Been having it for the last 30 minutes and was a bit worried as haven't had it before and I also have Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome which is a congenital heart defect. Should I phone the nhs health line for advice do you think?

      The sharp shooting pains dont usually last that long. Last only for a second or two.

      Hi Tracy,

      Did they ever respond to your call? I have Wolff Parkinson White also and have been experiencing similar symptoms so I am curious to know.

    I don't want to sound celebrative but I am so glad everyone on your post is going through the same because I thought I was dying. I have gone to dr before but only to come out normal. I have some GERD and do not know if I suffer from anxiety yet. These sharp shocking pains that come and go are horrible. I mean I have to stand up and stretch for pain to go away. It all depends how your posture is sometimes. I hope everyone feels better.

    Glad to see the commonalities. I've struggled with this for years. Pains coming and going all over the body, but always frightening when they come in the left chest. Been to multiple cardiologists. Probably 6 EKGs in the last year, wore a Holter monitor for a month, had bloodwork.  They all said heart was healthy, and I just had some premature atrial contractions (PACs). Had a cardiac cath done to try and fix them - they said it didn't pan out. Luckily they stopped on their own. 

    My anxiety is definitely worst when it comes to health.

      Edit: 6 EKGs in the last 4 years. Multiple ER visits. Everytime, "You're in great health!"

      Thank you turpinrt. I have these pains due to anxiety and lot of stress. But reading your words i got clarity. They are not belong to heart problems. Thank you once agin.

    Hello my name is Cheyenne and I'm 23 and I recently got diagnosed with anxiety... and now I'm having sharpe pains in my chest and random pains in my jaw legs and arms, I also have fainting spells they did a blood gas and blood test and a ekg and said everything came back normal... that was 3 months ago this is really freaking me out

      Hi cheyenne, I'm having the same symptoms plus electric type feelings in my left chest side as you for nearly 3wks now, I have been to my AE department twice and they did blood tests on my heart first time and they came back Normal and I've had 2 Eggs and they were normal, I'm going out of my mind with worry as I have young children and I'm constantly worried I'm going to have a heart attack, I'm am going through alot of stress at the moment so it could be anxiety but then I've been though worse stress in the past and never had a problem, I also have a sore to touch breast bone so don't know weather this is something to do you it, how are you feeling and what are your symptoms like now, x

      Cheyenne I forgot to mention I don't have the pain in my jaw or legs, just left chest, arm, shoulder and back, some times can feel slightly on the right side a center but all mostly to the left. X

      Are they sharp electric feeling pains ? I have been dealing with this for a couple of weeks

      Hi, yes some times sharp but other times dull pain also in my arm, Have you seen anyone about the pain, x

      Just my cardiologist but everything came out ok . He said that it could be more stomach related or muscular especially since I have GAD.

      Yes I do my arm feel like it gets stiff . But that's only once in a while . I am still worried tho sometimes I feel they missed something and the test were a while back . But that's the way I always think due to anxiety

      Hi, me to I also suffer from anxiety which I've been told doesn't help the situation, I'm sure your cardiologist would have seen if something was wrong with your heart, I've also a appointment with a cardiologist in 2 weeks time, what is it they do to you exactly? And do u have a sore breast bone and rapid pulse x

      Yes I have pain in my upper left arm.. it comes and goes.. but there is the pain..

      Hi, do you get electic type chest pains in your chest?, I do mostly to the left side constantly on/off every day and night,

      Did you get referred to a cardiologist? My doctor dismisses everything and says I'm an anxious person cause I have gad. My anxiety hasn't been an issue for a while though now, and this morning 2 different times had the sharp pain in left breast and fast heartbeat, of course then my anxiety jumped in full force
