Sharp, shooting, shock pain in left side of chest....anxiety?

I have posted in here before and everyone is so helpful and awesome... so here it goes.

I have been getting on and off sharp, shooting, shock like chest pains in the left side right near my left breast. The sharp pain will come for a second and be annoying and painful and then it'll disappear. It's on and off. It started earlier when I was at the physical therapist, and I did feel myself getting anxious and nervous when it happened. It went away while I was there and when I got home...then I ate and it started up again.

I am dealing with a thoracic disc herniation that's pushing against my spinal cord, which I would assume will cause certain shock-like feelings in certain places of the body. But I have to say, feeling this is making me INCREDIBLY nervous. I keep thinking I am going to die of a heart attack. Has anyone felt these types of sharp pains from anxiety? I do not know how to tell the difference between anxiety and an actual heart problem.

I don't have any other symptoms, some sensations in my leg and also my right shoulder but it came and went. My heart seems to be beating fine and I can breathe. The chest pains just really bothered me. It's a pretty terrifying feeling if anyone has ever felt this before also! rolleyes

Taking anxiety medication for Four years. Pain started in my chest yesterday. Continued until today. Are you guys saying I don't need to go to the ER?

there is no harm in going to the ER. but try to relax, dont worry about it. the more you worry, your stomach becomes more acdic. thats were the gas starts to build up.

Hi Sara. Lay down scrolling through the many experiences while having the electric shock aches and pains. This all makes sense as I have been having the worst bout of wind I have ever had. Mine is upper chest and on occasions shoots down arm. No palpation. No fever . No sweats. No extreme pain. When reading one post about when they burped straight after pain, I had a pain and burped . God it's bloody annoying . I'll go to doctors after weekend and see if I can get on top of this constant acid reflux . Had it 3 years and as I said its been at its worse for the last few weeks. Thanks for posting.

I found this discussion when I typed in my symptoms. Sounded exactly like what I was experiencing until the pain became more than I could stand and went to the ER. Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of how my situation turned out. Turns out I have shingles! Have every symptom mentioned here. Just be careful and watch closely.

I feel for you.  I had my shingles shot awhile back.  I would like to avoid getting that if I can.

I've been having this issue for about a week or morn now.  Being that I feel this is more nuisance than serious issue, I haven't really been concerned about the heart attack issue, since I know where I'm going when I die.  But the issue is, that I suffer from anxiety and gas too.  But way back when I first started suffering from untreated depression, i began to suffer from all sorts of chest pains at various places around my chest.  But this is nothing like those.  It's a shooting pain that goes down about 3 inches from the place where my chest meets the arm, and a ring of pain on my elbow..

It could be costochondritis if you read on the symptoms they match what everyone is feeling. I take Ibuprofen and the pain starts to go away. Try some next time .
