Hi Shaz,
It really depends on how you are operated on. I had a full abdominal hysterectomy - cut along the bikini line. I was absolutely petrified before my op - but all went as well as it could. I had dissolving stitches - so nothing to remove. After surgery I had a catheter in for about 24 hours along with pain relief that I could click when I needed it (was morphine based) - but that too was removed after 24 hours and I took codiene/paracetamols and ibuprofen to manage pain after that. I was only in hospital 2 nights - as I was recovering pretty well. You will be stiff and sore for at least 3-4 weeks - and very tired - I hope you have a good support plan - as you will not be able to drive for at least 3-4 weeks - and can't lift anything for 8 weeks (a kettle is about as heavy as you can do) Don't do anymore than that! I was sent home from hospital with blood thinning injections for the first 10 days at home - if you do get these - they will show you what to do. I also had a couple of courses of antibiotics as I had a couple of minor infections - one being the incision getting sore and hot, the second a small bleed after I had stopped bleeding post op 7 weeks. I have gone back onto HRT (was on it prior to op) and have not looked back. In my case the hysterectomy was the best thing I could have done - I feel miles better!!!!

Hi Shaz, how long did you have to wait for your op appointment? I have my appointment with my gyno next week. I hope all goes well for you 🤞🏻

Hello Shaz
All the best for your surgery. I had a hysterectomy in May. I had a catheter in overnight but it was removed the next day and I had no problems with it. There will be the usual drips pre and post surgery but that's all routine.
My best advice is to follow the instructions of your surgeon/nurse, particularly with regard to not lifting or stretching, i.e. no housework, hanging out washing. You can build up energy/strength with short walks but don't overdo it. I felt amazing afterwards, except for tiredness. Even if you feel great, don't overdo it. I took great care and it paid off. I had six monthly check up the other day and all well. Don't be afraid to ask questions of your surgeon and health care team. All the best Lyn
