Shimmering/flickering side effects

I had a tear in my retina located on the upper right side of my eye; it was treated  with laser 3 months ago; furthermore  the doctor said tha he applied laser 360 of my pheriferical tear because he noticed it had become thinner, after that I began to see shimmering/flickering on my upper and lower vision. I am 50 years old, I’m doing as much research as I can to find out if anyone with similar side effects has seen any recovery and if so in how long did it take to go away.  I live in Mexico and have chatted with a couple of people in talk groups who have experienced similar side effects after getting this procedure done, also I was never warned of anyside effects. I have not yet to chat or find any one who has completely gotten rid of it, any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

I am in the uk and had laser surgery for a horseshoe retinal tear 5 months ago. I still have some flickering, lots of swirls and floaters in the fluid of the eye especially when reading. I was told to expect this and that although it won’t improve, the brain will learn to ignore it depending on how anxious I am. This has been true of my experience and some days are better than others. As far as I’m aware this is normal. Annoying but better than a total detachment. Hope you can get used to this very soon.

Hello Wizzasmum, thanks for sharing your experience with us; as you mention I also have better and worse days. I have disscused it with my doctor and he told me that I need to help my brain forgett  the symptoms; however he never answered my quiestions ¿when would it disappear  and how long it would take. It seems that my side effects do not worry my doctor, in every checkup after my surgery he claims that everything appears fine. Thank you for feedback and I hope we can all overcome this.

When I queried this this at the hospital, I was told it could take a year or so, but it is better overall after 5 months and the floaters are really only noticeable if I’m tired. I think you just have to be patient and try to think positively in that it could have been much worse. Eyesight is very precious and although a problem like this is annoying, I think to myself that it’s not stopped me doing anything, so that’s a good thing. Good luck wink
