Shin and ankle pain

hi everyone,
I'm now 11 weeks post op and doing well but I still have pain in my shin and ankle. Is this normal? It can become very painful if I'm walking for any length of time (more than half an hour). I am due to go back to work in just over a weeks time and just wanted to check that this is still a part of recovery.
thanks x

I hope this just our bodies readjusting, but it is signicant enough that I took a break from some exercises last week. And this week, I am resting more due to bronchitis.
Good luck Karen 😊

How long have you had these pains? Sure, sometimes they can go away on their own if they are given time and rest to heal, but if they are still hanging around, I'd definitely bring this up to an orthopedist, as it is interfering with your quality of life and, possibly your ability to go back to work.

I had huge bruise down my shin after op and swollen ankle and knee. Shin pain hasn't improved but ankle and knee def got better after swelling went down. Ankle pain is still there but not as bad as it was immediately after op. I mentioned them when I went for 6 week check but it was an ortho nurse not doctor. She said it would get better in time- I've to go back in August for another check up!

Sometimes it seems as if weird pains and discomforts are showing up during the healing process - Things we don't expect or not had before -
It is quite a long process and can take up to 12-18 months, if not longer - Of course we are not being told that might be the case, however my surgeon did mention 12 months and I freaked out - Who wants to know that, right?
Just keep in mind what your body went through and how your leg was manipulated, e.g. to dislocate hip joint - the force used - depends where the medical team placed their capable hands, so to speak -
you are definitely retraining the way you walk, a very balancing act -
I know that I am a sloppy walker - get up and start walking instead of standing and making sure I am in balance before I take the first step(so tedious) -
Also, and this has been mentioned a couple of times here on the forum, have a look at your shoes !!! Eventhough i knew it, I didn't get new shoes - Walked on the old comfy ones I wore pre-op ... those were expensive shoes and hell I was not going not to wear them - so wrong, on hindsight -
Just my experience okay -
It sounds that you are doing great though -
Does your job involve a lot of walking?
big warm hug

I am now 13weeks post op and I have still got a swollen ankle and foot. The doctors keep telling me it's plantar fasciitis and it can take 9-12 months to clear. I get frustrated because it just feels as if it's improving then it seems to swell back up. When this happens I have difficulty walking an try to think what I have been doing differently.
The doctors say there's nothing physio can do for me so I'm going private tomorrow. Let's see if I can get some satisfaction. I hope you have more luck than me and keep in touch.
