Doubts it’s related to the replacement. Blame it on the Chicken Pox you had

    That’s awful.

I couldn’t imagine it being from surgery.

It’s a virus and soneone you were in contact with would have had shingles or chicken pox even if they didn’t know yet, for you to catch it.  My mom had it at Christmas.  Knew no one wirhnit but as it’s so contagious before you get it anyone could have passed it alone.

    Very painful as well.

So sorry for your added discomfort and pain.

And you can only get it if you had chickenpox I believe

Doubt it is related to the op.   Varicella which causes both chicken pox and shingles is a virus. I know it is very painful and I hope you are on some suitable pain relief etc

Shingles breakout from surgery could be caused from the stress. Have you had shingles out break before not clear if this is your first breakout. Once the rash has cleared up and other symptoms be sure to get the new vaccination Shingrex . My doctor recommended it and it’s ok to get even after a shingles episode. It has lessoned the return and outbreaks. Especially important to avoid PHN as the disease progresses.

Take anti vira meds also using lidocaine over rash to numb the pain and anti histamines. For more info there is a thread just on shingles .

It not easy to adjust to THR and shingles at the same time. Very sorry to your coping with shingles too!

I really hope you only have a mild case of shingles. My sister has just got over a bad case that lasted for over a month. I should not think it has anything to do with the operation it self unless you were very stressed before surgery. Hope you recover quickly.

hi and yes! my husband had hip replacement surgery and 3 months later had a huge case of shingles all across his chest and back and has since had multiple cold sores also, he has had considerable thigh pain eversince the operation like there was something not right or infected but an x ray showed nothing Also, he was speaking to a woman who told him after her hip replacement surgery, she had a huge case of shingles right in the hospital that was worse to overcome than the surgery so i would say that this is definately a 'thing' that should be looked into both these cases were first time outbreak of shingles
