Hey, I was just diagnosed last Thursday. I'm a healthy 35 y/o and was shocked to get shingles. I had mild discomfort in an area of my back then a rash appeared late Wednesday and was diagnosed the next day. The pain didn't get really bad until the rash appeared. Good luck!

Jennifer,
That was my experience too. I did not think it was that bad . . . UNTIL the rash appeared!! My shingles were 'triggered" by a root canal (combined with 2 years of stress that I was going through at work as well as autoimmune problems). So, I had the rash as well as very nasty lesions in my mouth, on my lips and the lower half of my face with extended to inside my left ear. The key to keeping the pain "at bay" was my taking the max ibuprofen dosage based on the intervals listed on the back of the bottle. Then, at night time, I would take the heavier meds so I could sleep. As long as I stayed ahead of the pain, things were somewhat bearable . . .
