Shingles

I want to tell you my story as it might help someone out there who suspects it might be shingles. A little over a week ago I began to have what felt like vein pain in my left hand where I have carpul tunnel syndrome. It was very painful and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then I started hurting in my left shoulder and left arm, I at first thought I had slept on it wrong because I sleep alot on my left side. Then I got stung by a wasp Tuesday afternoon and then Wed night I began to see a couple of rash spots on my left arm. I went to work the next day still arm and shoulder hurting and then had a few more spots. By that afternoon I was talking to a friend of mine when I was discussing it with her about the possibility of ringworm? She reminded me that clear nail polish will smother it and kill it. Well I went home and put some on the spots. Friday I had already a Dr. appt scheduled just a check up, I thought lol well this is a good time to see the Dr. So by Friday morning more pain and more rash, she looked at it and said, yes we're putting you on antiviral meds and some pain meds and steroids. Well by the time I got home and took the pain meds and the other meds, I was in pain and the meds wasn't even touching it. I called the nurse and they finally put me also on tramadol. In the meantime I kept putting the clear nail polish on the rash. It not only helped to keep it from itching but each time I would feel an itch I would cover it with the nail polish then you would see the red bumps appear. I am happy to say that in less than 1 week I can go back to work, missing just 3 days. BTW, I prayed to the LORD the whole week and had he not had my friend talk to me and remind me of the nail polish and had I not already had a Dr. appt it might have turned out differently. I don't believe in coincidences. I KNOW my God went before me and made it manageable for me to get through this time! So I really wanted to share this because this past week I have done alot of online research on shingles and for those of you out there searching. PRAY and get on antivirals within the first 72 hours. Have tylenol close by and take your meds, drink plenty of water and pray some more and rest. let your body get rejuvenated and so you can get back on your feet!

Also plz check back with your doctor if a sample of skin was taken to identify shingles.

Ask  for the herpes zoster vaccination it will help clear the reoccurrence and duration of the rash. My doctor did that and shingles is under control. I don't depend on anti virals since.

Happy to hear that you were fortunate enough to have a minor breakout. Like many diseases, shingles varies. For example the first time you had chicken pox/measles/ or what have you, the severity varies for each individual. As for Shingles, some folks have it for 3 weeks, others, like myself  3 months. And yes, I pray on a regular basis, whether I have shingles or not. The important fact to remember is to get the antiviral immediately, take pain meds and yes prayer is always a positive factor. There is a new vaccine that will be available in a year or so. Therefore for those of us who have re-occuring shingles, it will be a blessing.

Again, always wonderful to hear when others do not have to suffer for long periods of time. Best wishes.
