Shingles in the Elderly

My aunt, who is in her eighties, lived independently about an hour's drive away.  She developed shingles and then, unfortunately, had a fall.

The doctor gave her a very thorough check but because of the risk of another fall said she could not be left on her own.

We brought her home to stay with us.  She is saying that she has difficulty moving her left leg.  The doctor saw nothing for concern.

I have a couple of questions.  Is it known for shingles to affect mobility ? ( she used to go out everyday for a reasonable walk )  Is there anything that we  need to be aware of that might be age related ?

The only thing I can recommend is for you to have plenty of patience.    My hubby had this in February and is still suffering.  He has post Shingles neuralga.  Hope I have spelt that correctly.   It is very painful.    Most people have Shingles and it is gone quite quickly but with others it goes on and on.      May be Age Concern might know the answer for your Aunt.  Hubby is only in his 60s and at times i feel he will be lucky to be here in his 80s (joke) he drives me up the wall with it.     He has not found it affects mobility.

    Good luck.

No shingles does not effect mobility. She should get the shingles immunization. I did even after I broke out. Since the immunization I have had zero out breaks . Zoster herpes virus look it up on the web . Then it will give u clear concise info for the virtual disease.
