Shingles in the eye

I would like to hear from anyone who has had shingles in the face and eye) It is the worst type to get, the Dr told me yesterday, I had excruciating stabbing pains in the back of my head 10 days before a rash appeared, I got treatment as soon as I was diagnosed, but it has been so very painful especially in my eye.I was scared of vision loss but after seeing the eye specialist every week, he said my vision is getting better, This really is such a horrible virus!! my eye is still so uncomfortable, sensitive and a bit swollen, I have various eye drops and pills to take but I feel I will never get better as it is 3 weeks now!! I would appreciate your comments and advice, thank you!

    Hi Jane,

My name is Glenda and I also just got shingles in my left eye! I also have Psoriasis! I was on Otezla for my skin condition and I was told that the otezla is what brought out the shingles! Otezla suppresses the immune system! Dec. 17,2016 I went to my skin doctor and told him I think I'm getting shingles in my left eye cause I had the burning and tingling feeling and my doctor looked at me like I had two heads and told my I am too young to get shingles (I am 37)! Before I got shingles in my eye I had it on my eyelid which only took about 8 days to clear up and the was dec 2, 2016! Dec 17, 2016 which was a Saturday and Dec 20th, 2016 when I woke up in the morning my eye was swollen shut! My hubby told me I need to see a eye doctor so I went I saw the eye doctor later that morning and he had to use a tool to open my eye to see in it! I was hoping it was just a eyelash or a cat hair cause I do have a long haired cat but nope, the doctor said it was the shingles virus so he put me on Viroptic eye drops and Famvir pills! I hate having this especially being so close to Christmas! I'm also taking Advil for the pain which does help a little bit!

I am just getting over shingles in right eye area. It was horrible, in and out of hospital for days. I have been on antiviral meds for 8 days now. Rash is nearly gone however the skin is sooo painful to touch and constant face pain. Eye still slightly swollen. I'm hoping this ends and I'm sorry you had to deal with it too. Eye area is the worse from what my doctor said.
