Had shingles in February and today after the itchy scalp and sometimes burning pain I got a little blister

Could I be getting another round of shingles again?  If someone here has had it on the scalp the first tine and then a second time in the same place as the first please let me know!!

This is just terrible and I thing once should be enough!

Thx

Not necessarily. If uncertain check with doctor to put your mind at rest. As you say it could be a bite.

    Dear Myrna,

Herpes Zoster-Shingles is a disease that follows a pattern. Yes, you can have recurrent Herpes Zoster-Shingles in the same area. Usually, you feel unwell with some of the following symptoms prior to the pain and onset of the rash:

Headache, chills and sweating, aches and pains, malaise, fatigue and exhaustion.

You need to see a physician today for a diagnosis.

If you had the burning pain on your scalp and some of the other pre- symptoms, yes, it is likely you have recurrent Shingles, not a bug bite on your scalp. Again, see a physician for diagnosis. Please ask for Valcyclovir or Famciclovir, rather than Acyclovir, as they work a little better, more effectively, if they are available on your island. Where do you live, BTW?

Please let us know what happens!

Myrna, shingles can be recurrent anywhere on your body, for some of us. Ask your physician for a Vitamin D level, as a low level impairs your immunity. Post us when you return from the doctor.

      Dear Merry

I did go to my doctor and she knew right away it was shingles

She gave me Zovirax for 7 days and told me it can also go away without anti virals!  She also said she gave me the anti viral to sped up the process toward healing

I just pray that I don’t get it again!

I feel tired,  fatigue and sore!  I feel if I was passing the flu

But luckily that the two reoccurrence I have had in two months have been only a blister!

I wash my hair every other day with baby shampoo

I now live in Puerto Rico and I was born and raised in NYC and after I got my bachelors degree in NYU I came to this island!

Well I pray for all who suffers this disease and hope we all can sleep at night!  I also take care of my mom who will turn 83 in August!

My husband who is diabetic is not easy!!

    Myrna,

Please Google High Lysine Low Arginine Diet and Herpes . The amino acid Arginine helps prevent shingles and Arginine triggers shingles.

I tended to eat nuts and legumes, not knowing about the Lysine Arginine Diet. Nuts are high in Arginine, and I would have severe frequent episodes of Herpes Zoster-Shingles. Once I stopped eating nuts and legumes, the frequency decreased. Chocolate is high in Arginine, BTW.

If your Vitamin D level is low, it can also be a trigger for recurrent Shingles. Mine was 14. Once I started taking Vitamin D3 2000 IU daily, I stopped getting episodes in my right ear every three to five weeks for the past 21 years.

      Dear Merry

That is true!  I am not eating nuts nor chocolate!  I am taking vitamin C for my immune system!  The doc said if your immune system is low you will trigger shingles,  but I will buy vitamin D3 because I had stopped taking a while back because they had said that too much vitamin D is also bad for the bones!  Well I guess all that is taken in access is also bad!

Thank you for your advice Merry!  Take care and let me know anything new!

      Dear Merry

It’s hard to think that shingles can be as long as 21 years!  So every 3-5 weeks you would get an outbreak on your right ear for as long as 21 years?  Omg that is terrible,  I mean the outbreak would be just in your right ear only?  The rest of your body would be clear then?  Sorry for asking all of this but I am trying to understand this shingles!

      Thx again!

      Myrna,

If you take Vitamin D3 2000 IU daily, and no Multiple Vitamins which would contain additional Vitamin D3 or Calcium plus D supplements, that is a safe dose. You are correct regarding Vitamin D, as it is a fat soluble Vitamin, along with Vitamins A and E. Too much of anything is bad for you, however.

      Best Wishes, Myrna!

I am sorry you are dealing with this again!

      Myrna,

That is correct. My first episode was the worst as I saw three doctors who had no clue what was going on, as the rash had not appeared in the external ear canal yet. I felt as if I was being tased while giving birth via my ear canal. The pain lasted 3-1/2 weeks before the vesicle-blisters erupted.

I have autoimmune diseases and breast cancer that predispose me to shingles. Most people who have recurrent shingles do not have these issues. A lot is due to stress, which I also had at the time of my first episode.

      Best Wishes
