Shingles without the rash

i had shingles a few years back and it was very painful. The last few weeks I've had this terrible burning pain in my right side that goes into my bum cheek, I suffer with arthritis so I thought it was all to do with that, went to my go and was told it was shingles under my skin, the pain is that pain when I get up in the mornings it effects my leg so I can't put it to the floor, just wondered if anyone else has had this

    Pam,

The Sciatic Nerve pain is neuropathic pain, just as Herpes Zoster-Shingles is. If you are having pain with each step you take from your upper buttock radiating down the outside of the leg, it certainly could be sciatica from impingement on the sciatic nerve rather than Herpes Zoster-Shingles. I suggest you see a neurologist or orthopedic doctor who can differentiate between the two. If you have no rash of shingles, that further builds the case for sciatica. If it hurts when you cough or bear down then that also points to sciatica.

If you get some relief of the pain when you lie down with your legs flexed (bent), that also points to sciatica.

Either way, please see a specialist.

Please let me know how you are doing

    Best wishes

    Merry Juliana
