Shiny red patch (and a few smaller ones) on glans, no itching or pain

  • Been going on for 3-4 weeks
  • No itch or pain
  • Color changes from pink to red, depending on moisture etc
  • The patches get wrinkly when penis is flaccid
  • A few days after masturbation a clear layer of skin exactly the size of the skin painlessly peeled off. Thought I was done with this, dead skin being gone and all - but no luck
  • No sex for the last 7 months
  • Smaller spots appeared later and are slowly growing
  • Got much worse after masturbating with liquid soap 2 weeks ago
  • I got something ALMOST IDENTICAL two years ago. Lasted for a month or two, disappeared without medication

Since it has no pain and itch, I am afraid it is not ballinitis and my mind and Doctor Google scare with alternatives less benign such as in situ carcinoma or Queyrat's Erityhroplasia. To be honest, I am worried sick hence this post.

If anyone can shed light and share experiences he will have my sincerest gratitude. I do have a dermatologist appointment booked but I am afraid I will drive myself insane till the session.

Thank you all in advance

Update: Saw a dermatologist at Northwestern University in Chicago today. Summary:

    • Diagnosis: Idiopathic Balanitis
    • Zero concern about malignancy (I mentioned the worry was due to lack of pain and itching). He mentioned it would generally be larger, much redder and thicker. Did not even consider biopsy.
    • Not fungal or bacterial, it is something the body creates due to a reaction to some chemical or stress
    • Masturbation with soap the likely aggravator
    • Treatment: Discontinue Ketoconazole cream, keep it clean and don't worry if it gets bigger
    • Aquaphor is optional to use to keep area from drying

Hope this helps someone who has something similar and is worried

It is never a good idea to use any form of body wash during masturbation, even very healthy penile skin would find this very difficult to deal with.

You may need to work with the dermatologist for some months to find a range of measures to deal with the issues you have, some if things do not seem to be working our right, contact them again ....

Hi there thank you so much for your post. i seem to be experiencing everything you have mentioned right down to the timeline. About 2 years ago a red patch/blotch appeared on the head of penis and stayed for about 1-2 months. it caused me a great deal of anxiety but left without any cream or medication. I considered myself lucky but almost 2 years later to the day it came back and got worse. The majority of the head of my penis is red with darker patches in certain spots. I have been incredibly stressed as any cream i have tried (including a doctor prescribed cream) has almost seemed to aggrivate the situation causing more redness. How is your situation nowadays? Do you think this is something i should try and learn to live with? I really appreciate your activity on here as i have been pulling my hair out with stress as everything i have googled has implied scary situations. I hope to hear from you, thank you very much.
