Shoe Lifts

Hi, since my hip replacement 2 years ago I am still limping and I wonder if one leg is shorter now? Does anyone have any info on shoe lifts to correct this - any advice would be great.

Thanks

Jean

Hi Jean, first off you need to either get your leg length measured or measure it yourself probably with the help of maybe your partner.

Lay flat on your back with toes pointing up and with a flexible tape measure go from the stcky out bit of your hip bone keeping the tape measure taut go across your leg to your ankle bone (the bit that sticks out on the inside and then do the same on the other side. That's how you decide if you have a discrepancy.

From their you can buy lifts online or depending on how much you can get referred to podiatry

Hi Alexandria, thanks for the advice - will give it a go - think I'll get my husband to do it and then my son to double check - belts and braces eh!

Absolutely, I have a leg length discrepancy and the podiatry clinic did me six but if it's minor then you can make them yourself

Hi, I thought a podiatrist just dealt with ingrown nails and other probs of the feet?

How can I make a lift myself to test - is it easy?

      Regards

No they do shoe lifts as well as other aspects of the feet and ankles.

Before you even consider putting a lift in you must make sure their is a discrepancy because it's possible their isn't and because of the hip replacement you could hiking your hip.

But if you measure and you do have one then you can try using a brought one from offline or even boots

I had a leg length difference of 1.5cm prior to my operation and ordered wedges online from Amazon. I tried two types to see which I preferred. They weren’t very expensive and did make a difference.
