shoes after orif surgery

Hi I'm 13 weeks post orif surgery, my consultant has said i can come out of my air cast boot and be fully weight bearing, he said i could wear trainers but didnt advise what make are best. Does anyone have any recomendations that they found best.

My foot swells up when i've tried to wear my old pair of trainers, even if i stand for a while doing chores in the kitchen bare footed my foot swells i know you can get swelling for up to six months but I'm concerned how your supposed to start walking normally if you cant even wear shoes yet.

Would love to hear your experiences with this.

I saw a video on YouTube yesterday, but I can’t remember who it was from, but it was orthopedic doctor in Michigan and he was saying that your first shoes following ORIF surgery need to be very supportive, sneakers and that you should not go barefoot even in your house and that you need a very supportive shoe. He was showing sneakers that you couldn’t bend and had real strong sole. Like Hokas he also recommended compression socks to help with circulation and swelling. I have 2 weeks still before my checkup and i hope i get cleared for LWB And PT. i am 5.5 weeks post surgery.

thank you I'll have a look at you tube, im in the uk so might have some different makes of trainers. I was non weight bearing with a cast on for 4 weeks then partially weight bearing still with the cast on with a surgical shoe for another 4 weeks, then full weight bearing only with the boot on for 4 weeks so it was 12 weeks till i was allowed to put my foot on the floor without any support, the consultant made me walk towards him barefoot at my last appointment last week then said to walk around the house barefoot.

my physio starts this week so maybe that will help with the swelling the more movement i do.
