Short intense pain attacks

I've been living with fibromyalgia for nearly twelve years and at the moment am relatively well, except for sudden pain attacks that start in the middle of my back, spread out through my spine and down my legs, increase in intensity to an incredible level, and then ease again - all in less than an hour.
The last one I had was about 8 minutes from realising it was starting to getting laid down just in time to avoid passing out. All I can focus on is breathing through it. Afterwards I'm cold and exhausted for a few hours, often until the next morning. Then back to normal.
I don't think they are particularly new, but previously I've had them from a much more severe level of general pain. At the moment my pain is well controlled most of the time, so when they hit (anywhere between a few days and two weeks, with no apparent pattern) it's a huge contrast and a bit of a shock to both my body and the friends and family around me.
Just finding out if this is unique to my FM or anyone else experiences it?
Thanks
Beth

I too have experienced pain attacks, especially spine pain. I have moments when my right leg gives out and am not able to apply pressure for some time. I have recently experienced knee pain that comes on for no reason. My doctors tell me to stay active and work through the pain. How is one to live like this?

Hi Beth. Have you seen the doctor because of these acute symptoms? I think it would be a good idea my dear. And through my own experience, if a person has been seeing the same doctor for many years, often they do not take newer symptoms seriously. They tend to become somewhat complacent with their regular patients who have chronic conditions. So if necessary, I would consult a different doctor who will take your complaints more seriously and perhaps dig more deeply. Those attacks must be quite distressing Beth. I have had Fibromyalgia for over 30 years and I can't say I have ever experienced this type of attacks. Of course every case is somewhat different in their pain symtoms. But please get it checked out thoroughly.
