Shortness of breath for the past 8 months... what can it be?

Hi everyone!

I've been having shortness of breath (that's worse at night), for the last 8 months now..

I've had:

  • chest x-ray -- everything looks fine
  • d-dimer -- blood clot ruled out
  • inhalers prescribed -- flovent & albuterol (don't help)
  • been to a pulmonologist and had breathing tests done -- everything looked fine!
  • heart echo done -- a PFO was discovered (but the cardiologist says its not what's causing my shortness of breath)

** side note, the cardiologist was very dismissive of my symptoms and said that I "don't look short of breath" **

Has anyone had shortness of breath that gets worse at night, and especially when you are laying down?

do you have anxiety? That’s one of the most common causes of shortness of breath. looks like you’ve been thoroughly checked out for all the other reasons you could have shortness of breath.
