Shortness of breathe

Hi everyone

Suffered from a panic attack couple

Of weeks ago then was found to have very high blood pressure. Doc did ECG and everything was normal apart from right branch block in heart. Which I have been told they don’t treat and is in no way dangerous. I was also suffering from a shortage of breath as in I had to yawn all the time to get a good breathe.  He put my panic attack down to my high blood pressure and prescribed me 40mg propranolol twice daily.

This had reduced my blood pressure to a good level and also brought my heart rate down to a good level. However I still can’t shift the shortness of breath! It hasn’t been everyday. But had it the last 2 days. It doesn’t interfere with my sleep just during the day. I’m actually panicking about it now convincing myself I’m about to have a heart attack.

Can anyone advise on this. I’m back at docs on Wednesday but just really scared. Thank you.

I’m also on 40g twice a day and feel exactly the same. I d had this on and off for years so don’t worry. The moreyou think about it the worse it will be. It’s like hyperventilating the more you think about it the worse it is. Try not to worry you won’t have a heart attack.

I hate the feeling. And the More I focus on it the worse it gets. I don’t think it’s the propranolol causing it because the shortness of breath had started before I started taking them. How do you overcome the shortness of breath?

No easy answer I’m afraid. What I do is if I feel I want to yawn I tell myself don’t yawn now wait until the feeling comes again and then yawn. I am convinced it’s more a psychological thing rather than the need to actually yawn. Keep busy and try to ignore. If you find that hard then when you think you need a good breath try leaning over the back of a chair that works but stop thinking about it because that makes it worse
