Shot myself in the foot!

Posted , 10 users are following.

After a couple of crappy weeks following at 2.5mg drop from 15mg to 12.5mg I decided to go back up to 15mg two weeks ago.

At the same time, but unrelated, I got quite ill - not gastro, but the same result if you get my meaning. I did post on here seeking advice.

Because of the high likelihood of developing a second autoimmune disease, and the well known link between gluten and PMR, I decided to cut out all gluten - and dairy - which follows eliminating all sugar (other than fruit) and seed oils (omega 6 polyunsaturated oils) back in January (you might well ask what there is left to eat!).

So now I feel GREAT! All the bloating, moon face, fat neck, pain, fatigue - you name is - has compeltely gone!! It's a bloody miracle!!

My dilemma now is - which one has made me feel so better????? :-)

Firstly I'm reducing much slower - 1mg at a time and I'll see how that goes.

Secondly, in a month or so I'll reintroduce some dairy back into my diet and see how that goes too.

A question however, how many of you have tried gluten or dairy free and felt heaps better?

I don't get this one!  You say "two weeks ago" you had to up your pred from 12.5 to 15 mgs.  Then you say you have been on a gluten/ dairy free diet since January, and now a miracle has happened and you are free of pain and fatigue??  Why then up your pred?

Have I misunderstood your post?  Or have I got brain fog?

Sorry, it's probably the way I've written it.

I was on 15mg and dropped to 12.5 - which was clearly too much - so I went back up to 15mg. I'm now tapering at 1mg doses.

At the same time I got some serious belly problems and stopped eating gluten and dairy.

I stopped eating sugar (other than fruit) and polyunsaturated oils back in January (in an effort to clean up my diet from processed foods).

This means that I don't know if I feel better because of the pred, gluten or dairy!

"well known link between gluten and PMR" - what well-known link? I have only ever come across it outside mainline medicine.

I was on a gluten-free diet when my PMR started - I eventually discovered I am allergic to something in the structure of hard wheat as used in most commercial products in most of Europe and the western world and develop a horrible very itchy rash. I can eat gluten-containing grains and I can eat soft wheat (as used in France for their bread) so it is not gluten per se. However, to avoid wheat in the UK the only option if you want to eat carbs is gluten-free.Wheat is in everything commercially made! I once found it in RISOTTO in Australia! We were at Uluru and I ate it in the restaurant - and itched. Next day in the shop I found one of these dried "ready packs" - wheat was on the list of ingredients...

And yes, typical mistake - only alter one thing at a time!

The problem is - with this being bad for you, and that being bad for you, there won't be anything we can eat at all soon!😞😞

LOL, well known in my own head probably!

Just google Gluten and PMR and start reading - a lot of it is just crap as you'd expect, but there's some discussion about celiac disease and PMR as well as a link between gluten and inflammation.

Seriously, I'm prepared to do anything to get this thing under control.

Gluten in rice?? WTF? Mind you, I can't believe what products contain gluten and sugar. I don't know that I can ever go back to eating processed food now that my eyes have been opened to the crap I've been eating. No wonder I could never get my weight under control.

Haven't you heard of the 'air' diet?? lol

Right now I only eat meat, fruit and veggies along with non-gluten grains.

You have to be keen as it takes a lot of preparation and thinking (imagination doesn't hurt either!)

It was a pack of those "ready mixed" things - we were at Uluru, so I'm sure such food was about standard to save on deliveries!

I would say you feel better because You are on15mg of pred.

Quite possibly, time will tell - I'm reducing by 1mg now. I had got down to 10mg previously but started relapsing and returning to 12.5mg didn't fix it. That's why I went back up to 15mg.
