Should I ask my doc to increase dose?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have now been on 50mg of sertraline for 2 weeks and although I don't have so much side effects (I had the nauseous feeling, headache, panicky feelings worsened, insomnia)

I still feel very anxious.

The only time I am ok is when I am at home with the door locked.

When hubby goes to work I always have to take diazepam,

I have been off work now for 6 weeks and OH have been on the phone

They where ok and said they will just let my work know that I am still unable to go back to work.

I really want to get back to my work and some normality, routine!

I am tying to be patient and really trying to get out and about but it is just feeling like too much of an effort and u am exhausted!

I am sitting here in tears just thinking of how upside down my life feels right now.

My doc has got me an appointment with a mental health nurse on Friday and is am worried about that too!

I just feel so sick to my stomach! Any advice would be much appreciated!

Despite what you might think/feel, you are doing so well!  You are making it through each and every day, and that's all you need to be doing at this point.  2 weeks is still very early for sertraline.  it's going to take longer than that to feel better.  Hopefully you should get some relief soon.  I went back on 50mg in the fall, and it was at least 3 weeks before the side effects (including the all day anxiety started to decrease).  I took Lorazepam every day during that period, then I would have a day when I wouldn't need it, then two, then three.  Now I haven't taken any Lorazepam since October.  You will get there.  These are the early days, and unfortunately this med makes you feel worse before you feel better.  The initial decrease in mood and anxiety is because the medication temporarily limits your serotonin levels.  Your body stops producing it, and your body is also not ready to use all the extra serotonin being given my the medication.  Your body/brain take time to create and grow new receptors for the serotonin, and that procress takes weeks, which is why the medication takes so long to work.  I found that knowing this, made me feel better.  I knew I would get there and so will you, you just have to let the medication do it's thing.  Keep taking your benzos as you need.  It won't be forever! Hang in there, we are here for you!
