Should I be concerned?

Should I be concerned.  I had spotting with clots which my doctor termed old blood most of August into September.  Then in the middle of September I began my flow.  It won't stop.  It's been three weeks.  Instead of getting lighter it is getting heavier.  I am tired and just want it to stop!!   What should I do??  Should I go see the doctor.  I feel like I should go to the emergency room.  I feel like I'm slowly bleeding to death.  I don't like Perimenopause.

Hi Lori, I was the same clotting old blood and heavy bleeding, there was time I would get up from sitting down and I would gush the blood was just pouring out out of me like water....I went to my Doctor and he gave transvaginal test to see if anything was wrong and I discover I had a small fibroid hanging from uterus on a stalk... I went on to having it remove and that was about 4 years ago now, I'm ok they have disappear a lot...my doctor that it was too small to make make me bleed so I guess it was the change

I suggest to put your mind at rest if you are worried to go and see your Doctor he should be able to send you to get a check just for peace of mind try not to worry as periods can get erratic make us feel we are bleeding death but we can't, have Iron levels check as well....mine went down very low and I started to feel lightheaded and fainte as soon as I had my iron injections I started to feel better

all the ups and downs of the menopause journey you will get better, hugs.

Hi Lori! I have the same issue. My last heavy flow was the end of August and I have been spotting/light bleeding since then. I am on iron supplements as this can cause anemia! I would get your iron checked as soon as you can. Or if you are feeling light headed you can get it checked at the ER. I honestly know how scary it is! I have had many anxiety attacks while going through this. You will be ok! Eat iron rich foods and drink a lot of water. Let me know how you are doing!

lori,  i've just been through this.  I did go to the doctor and he sent me for a pelvic scan, which was normal.  The nurse there told me it is very common to have this, bleeding and spotting when nearing menopause.  Mine went on for a full month, heavy at first, then light spotting and then heavy and then tapered off with spotting again. It has now stopped. (doctor gave me progesterone tablets to take to stop it but they stopped on that same day, so didnt need them)  I don't know what stage you are at in perimenopause but the doctor can give you progesterone pills to stop the bleeding.  Ibuprofen is also recommended to help with bleeding.

Thank you so much metamorphed and the rest of you for replying to my concern.  You are so kind.  I can only talk to my husband, who is no help and my cousin who doesn't always answer her phone.  You have relieved my worry a bit.  I have booked an appointment with my gynecologist.  But she can't see me until November the 2nd.  I am supposed to go to my sister's which is four hours away in a couple of weeks.  So i am hoping the bleeding will ease up by then at least.  Thanks again, Lori

Lori, i had a couple of long, scary-heavy periods right before my periods went the other way and got lighter and farther apart (before stopping completely).

However, when they're so heavy you're considering going to the emergency room, having to wait 3 and 1/2 weeks for a doctor's appointment seems a bit much to me. If it were me, I'd try to get a much earlier appointment, even if that meant switching gynos or going to a GP. Would that be possible? Good luck with it!

hi lori.  I was concerned too that it was going on so long.  I did wait for a good while before seeing the doctor but I think I trust what the nurse said, as my pelvic result was normal.  If you can get an appointment sooner, to ease your mind, that would help.  don't forget to post here when it stops. You said it was three weeks now, mine was a month, so if that is anything to go by, but of course we are all different.  take care.

    Dear lori

For peace of mind I would get it checked but it does sound like start of menopause. I had the odd heavy period, heavier than normal for a couple of periods then reallylight ones then it went to contious spotting, whereas my friend had really heavy ones which would suddenly come on when she got out of bed, but she didnt really have the spotting like me. I did request a transvaginal ultrasound to put my mind at rest and it was the start of menopause for me x
