Should I be pain free after 3 months?

Do some of you still have pain? Not a lot but just enough to let you know it's there? Also, I sometimes feel like my leg pulls down a little when I'm walking up the stairs. I still get a little pinching occasionally too. Does anybody else have this feeling?

I still have pain after 6 months. Its nowhere near as bad as the pain pre-op so can only assume it's part of the healing process. I was told it can take up to a year to heal fully.

If you're worried it's probably worth a visit to GP for reassurance.

I am also 3 months post op and know exactly what you are talking about.

I too feel it when walking upstairs, down is absolutely fine.

However, I know it can take up to a year and compared with my pre op pain this is much better.

Good luck with your ongoing recovery.

    Hi Miele,

Not to discourage anybody here, but 17 weeks post op, I do still have pain ... however, my other hip's cartilage has gone from mild to severe in less than 6 months and this is causing the pain - my right, operated hip, is compensating now for the other one and doing a great job --

I think it is pretty normal - I was told that it might take up to 18 months ... goodness, right?

take one step, one day at a time - try not to compare your self with others either ... it is an individual process -

be gentle with your self - you are doing great !!!!

    warm hug

Steps err hard for me waking up.I went in a bus tour across the U.S.for 11 days at five months post op. And it was a night mare.especially in Washington D.C..

Walking up steps to see the Lincoln memorial and the Jefferson's memorial wetter 66 steps up Syu night in marble and light rain.

My thigh hurt and also my groin. But not server pain. The bathrooms were like 18 inches from the floor. I had a hard time getting up pigged loo.

Just give yourself a Little' time to continue to heal. Sounds like your on the right tract for progress.

Before surgery I did not have the range of motion to go up stairs. It was as if someone clamped a huge hand on my hip and I just looked for away around the stairs. I do hope that tin time I will once again be able to do stairs. Three weeks out and I manage the one step in the garage okay. I guess time is our biggest healer.

Hi I'm 3 months too. I have no pain inside the joint which is fab. My wound area is still a bit sore still not able to sleep on itbut doesn't bother me in the day. After walking a lot my thighs ache a bit but that's because I'm not used to it. I can still tell that my leg isn't as strong as the other when I'm going upstairs as it's more of an effort to lift up my body. I'm having problems with my knees which I didn't have before - they ache if I sleep on my side and my big toenails are still not growing after the weight of the quilt for 5 weeks on them.

However  the great thing is being able to walk pain free and stand for so much longer.

Yes I still get the odd wake up call on the operated side.I will be 15 weeks this coming Tuesday. I have to say though I have n't really suffred with much pain on that side. Just the odd ache / niggle / pinch and a little burning that comes and goes across the middle front of the thigh. Can't really complain. I have worse pain in my unoperated right side and I would rather the niggles than the full blown agony for sure.

Funnily enough Hailea thats where most of my pain is on the un-operated side. Poor side has had so much strain on it for the last nine weeks lol. I still suffer a bit from swelling round my ankle on the operated side too, it seems to be going slowly then comes back with a vengence lol. xx
