Should I be worried about this?

I just recently ate a homemade banana cake I made from scratch and I'm worried now if I might end up choking on it. The cake is moist mostly, but the pieces of food I was chewing went down my throat when I wasn't finished chewing them properly. I'm so concerned now if I need to go to the ER now or would drinking some beverage like milk or water help dissolve it or soften it up? My throat feels tighter now since I'm panicking about the cake might be stuck in my throat, even though I'm not choking yet.

you wouldn’t be able to breathe if you were choking. Apparently the piece slipped down your throat just fine. Drink some milk or water just so you can relax. Don’t overthink it if you were really truly choking you would know it! Choking does not happen later on after you eat something . It either happens right away or not at all. do some long slow deep breathing and relax.

Thank you Jan for the response. It's really hard for me to not overthink about it. But I will take your advice on taking some long slow deep breathing and trying to distract myself with something I enjoy doing, so the feeling could go away.

I do know this can be a symptom of anxiety. I had a friend who had this condition she would constantly ask me while eating if she could choke on various foods and had restricted her diet to only soft foods. I would say that you are experiencing a symptom of your anxiety and I know it is not easy to do but try to relax as I am sure you are physically fine. You might feel better having a cold drink of water though. There is a reason when we get anxious that we feel like we have a lump in our throats and that is with no food intake. You will be okay. Take care.

My doctor just told me this today that I'm experiencing anxiety, which is causing me to have a feeling that a food is stuck in my esophagus, even though there is nothing there. It happens with any kind of food I eat which makes me panic. It's crazy how anxiety can cause something like this. I'm scared sometimes to eat solid foods now, since I want to avoid possibly choking one day, I never choked in my life, but it's weird how I'm fearing choking now. I'm seeing a therapist though for help. And thank you for reassuring me that everything will be okay.
