Should I decrease my dose? Any advice

Hello

Every since I increased from 50mg to 75mg, I've been feeling worse. I'm on week 7 of 75mg, and from the moment I started on the increase I had extreme dizziness, headaches every morning, increased anxiety and disturbed sleep patterns.

I didn't feel this bad on the 50mg, only dizziness which prompted the doctor to increase after 8 weeks.

I'm beginning to think 75mg is too much for me. Should I go back down to the 50mg?

Unfortunately this is the situation we find ourselves in the question is do you feel well enough at 50mg and are happy with how you feel or like myself it's just not quite where I want to be, therefore we have to take that gamble and up the dose, it's a catch 22 it all just depends on the person I'm on 100mg and I'm only 24 lol which sucks and I went from 50 to 100 which was quite a shock! I also

Have similar side effects to you mainly the anxiety and broken sleep patterns but at first it was insomnia so this now is a bonus hope you doing ok

Jennifer, can you 'support' your 50mg dose with Talking Therapy? The local Health Trust should have a service and ours is also one where you can self refer believe it or not; no GP required! You may find the professional advice and discussion is enough to provide strategies for dealing with your thinking/worry/panic/low mood. It takes time as you may already know.

All the best and best of luck with your 50mg; go for it.

How was your anxiety on 50g compared to now ?

I was on 50 and upped to 100 without any bad side affects however after 3 months I've felt the anxiety creep back in, I've been taking 125 and my god I can feel the 25g difference I slept through my alarm this morning! But it's took the anxiety away so I'm going to stick with it.

Best thing to do is speak to your doctor it may be you are not suited to sertraline if you are always feeling dizzy, if you felt better on 50 then reduce and make an appointment, hope your feeling better soon x

Hi Jennifer, why did the doc increase you to 75mg? Was the 50mg not working? How did you feel on the 50mg? If you feel that this dose is too high perhaps it is. Sometimes you have to go against the doc and trust your guts because as much as the doc knows, he’s not in your body and not taking this drug for this condition, but you ARE and you have insight that he doesn’t. Take care.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have one more question... can I reduce it to 50mg (after 7 weeks on 75mg) by myself? Or, do I need the doctor's permission?

Hi you don't need the doctors permission reduce it and see how you feel but I would at least request a telephone conversation with your doctor so they are aware and log it in your notes, it maybe that you are not suited to this tablet hence the dizziness so make them aware as they maybe able to suggest something else for you xx

      Hi Kerry,

Im getting there. I'm having some withdrawal symptoms, but I can manage with them. Spoke to my doctor over the phone this morning and he thinks it was a good idea. We are sticking to the 50mg for now, and if I still continue to have side effects, I will go down to 25mg and see what happens after that. Thank you for asking. How are you?

      Jen xx

Ah pleased to hear you are ok, what are the withdrawal symptoms like if you don't mind me asking ?

I upped to 125 and I'm anxiety free which is great xxx

Its the usual increased anxiety, with slight dizziness. More so at night. But, its more managable.... at the moment. I'm so glad you are anxiety free. Lots of love xxx
