Should I give up on Sertraline?

I've been on Sertraline since April and in that time have increased from 50 to 200mgs.
I've had some good spells but I always seem to go back downhill. I've been on 200mgs for 5 weeks now and after having a good week last week my anxiety has returned and is really bad.
Should this still be happening this far into a dose increase? I'm back to feeling desolate and that I just won't recover this time (2 previous SSRI'S stopped working after 15 years). I'm so worried that I've been on SSRI'S for so long, that they won't work anymore.
Sorry to be a misery but I really need support right now.

hi hun there are so many different medications out there, sometines ssri doesnt help where as an snri might but everyone is different, the fact you have seen improvements at all is a good sign, see what your psychiatrist thinks, ive been reading up a lot on different ones online this morning and feel like im ready to make the switch but only because i have had no improvement at all in 18 weeks

Hi Samantha, the fact that you have periods of feeling better suggests that the Sertraline is still working. If you started in April, it is still only 4 months in total which isn't a great deal of time in recovery terms. Having said that, 5 weeks into 200mg should be really settling by now. It might be worth talking to GP about switching to an SNRI or even an add on like Mirtazapine in combination with the Sertraline. There are so many options out there but GP /Pysch should be talking to you about medication strategy alongside talking therapies, CBT, medication, diet, excercise etc. Best of luck
