     Hi,

As the body prepares to push a large baby through a not-so-large space, a specific hormone works to loosen up joints. This hormone can be a godsend, but it can also lead to joint laxity and maybe even permanent damage if postpartum joint health is ignored.

Weak hips often place unnecessary stress on the knee joint. Maybe that’s the reason you are now experiencing pain even in knees.

Could you try chiropractor? Or ask for a referral to physical therapy, try to find a therapist experienced with orthopaedic conditions. Please ask your doctor to look into having an x-ray done if it persists.

    Take care.

    Luis.

This is a common new mom's problem.  When your pregnant, as you know, your body swells up dues to hormonal changes.  In your body there is no empty space so if something is swollen it usually pushes on what is right next to it.  In your case there is a muscle that sits in the buttocks (one on each side)  called the pirirformis muscle.  It is right next to the sciatic nerve as it exits the buttocks and goes down the back of the leg.  This muscle swells and puts pressure on the nerve and causes all kinds of sciatica-type symptoms.  My first suggestion is to get to a physio or chiropractor and get some treatment.  Deep tissue massage work into the buttocks is best but it hurts to have it done.   Secondly you could try some isolated stretches to that piriformis muscle.  While sitting, cross over one let to the other, rest right ankle on top of left knee.  Do this slowly and carefully.  Then try to bend from the waist forward.  You will feel a stretching, pulling feeling in the buttock and lower back area.  It may hurt a little, back off the stretch if it does and hold it at the pain free spot for 15 seconds.  Repeat 3 times and on the other side.  After you've done this stand up and see how it feels.  Also a great time to stretch these muslces would be after a bath or shower.  You may need to do this for 1 week or 2 before you get results as this muscle has been tight and swollen for a long time.  Good Luck!!
