Should I proceed with Surgery

I have an acute medial meniscus tear of the right knee and an acute lateral meniscus tear of the right knee.  I have been in pain for about 8 months.  Recently, I had a really bad Urinary Track Infection and was literally off my feet for 4 days and 4 nights.  As a result, all of my swelling went down in my knee and I have no pain to speak of.  I have Knee Arthroscopy scheduled in 3 weeks, and now I do not know if I should proceed with surgery for a knee that is not hurting.  What are your opinions?  Do you think the pain will come back rather quickly or maybe not at all.  I just do not know how I should proceed.

I would wait till I got active again. My guess is that as soon as you resume normal activities, you will be back to the prior pain levels. Unfortunately, many times the meniscus that appears to self heal are like broken bones that aren't properly repaired, they heal wrong and create bigger problems than before. Talk to your surgeon. I've found the new generation Drs aren't knife happy and will be conservative in their approach. They have enough work without being "ambulance chasers"

Mary Ann, I've had arthroscopy in the past and it did not help significantly. Also, there is much research that shows it to be ineffective. I wouldn't proceed with it. Good luck!
