Should I seek endometriosis specialist?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have had discomfort and ovarian cysts off and on for the past 10 years. I have been on birth control during this time to supress any growth of endometrium but I have never had a proper diagnosis (lap surgery in 09 did not identify endometrium). My obgyn suspects endometrisosis based on symptoms and family history and wants to refer me to a specialist 6 hours away. My question is should I seek this specialist? Or would another obgyn's opinion be just as valuable (my doc seems clueless re: endo) or should I seek the specialist if I can make it work? Any guidance or personal stories would be helpful! Thanks!

All I can say is that if I had the chance & could afford the travel, I'd go see an endo specialist 6 hours away. BUT: talk to his or her nurse first to see if they want you to have been confirmed via another lap before you make that trip. Here in the States they're divided on that point, mainly along the lines of "I am - or am not - too busy to spend precious time on someone who isn't confirmed."

    A lot could've changed in 9 years.

    Dearest Alison,

what are you waiting for? This is an isssue of your health we are talking about here. Why dont you find out why you are habing these discomfort. If you have the time and afford the travel for 6 hours to see a specialist, a gynecologist who would check and explain everything to you, why don't you do it? Or better still if you cannot go really that far ask google to help you locate a good gynecologist close to or consult another specialist.

There is no time to waste, its all about staying healthy.

I wish you the best and hoping to hear from you again.

    Good luck.
