Should I start taking medication?

Hi, a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with both hsv1 and 2. My doctor didn't really give me any information afterwards so what little I do know is what I have researched on my own. My currentbreaks out are about nickel in size and occur once every month to two months. The breakout usually lasts a week plus or minus a day or two (all of this is occurring in the genital area I do not have any breakouts in or near my mouth). Should I be taking medication for this?

Some people live healthy lives without meds by eating well and limiting certain foods. However some have severe outbreaks that may require meds. Therefore it's a case by case situation. If you can live with the symptoms I would not take meds unless really necessary. Meds will however also help suppress the virus to reduce the risk of you transmitting it to your partner unless they already have it.

They say if you have more than 6 obs a year your supposed to take medicine daily to make the number of obs you gave a gear less and less severe. I woukd def be on medication because the obs aren't too enjoyable and interfere w your daily life. Also if you take acyclovir or something similar it can help prevent you transmuting it to someone else as easy. That is what my dr told me as well as I've read it here in the forums hope this helps a little😊

You definitely made a good point. Meds do help reduce transmission and lessen outbreaks and its duration. I agree, it would be a good choice after all. smile

And besides there's no way I would have physically been able to get through my first ob with out medication and prescribed cream.
