Should I start taking Sertraline?

Posted , 2 users are following.

Im a 36 year old male and was precribed Sertraline a few days ago, 100MG dose. I've been feeling very low over the past 6 months, especially after my father died, drank too much and lost a fair bit of my sex drive. My GP prescribed Sertraline on my first consultation which I found a little over zealous.

I thought I had mild depression but after reading some of the stories here should just belt up and get on with life as my problems aren't half as bad as some other peoples? I'm anxious about taking a drug when maybe I don't need it, or am I being over cautious?

    hi kenny,

no one should have to put up with depression,i don`t know about the dosage of sertraline,as i was prescribed a low dose 25mg,so i don`t know about your dosage, your problems aren`t trivial, the death of your father must have really broken your heart,so please don`t think that it is trivial,it must be a worry for you to visit your gp,hope you feel better soon

    Hi Kenny

Your story is very similar to mine, my mother was ill for a very long time and then died a year ago this topped with work pressure etc led my partner to make an app at the doctors as I was becoming a pain to live with.

My Doc was very understanding and simply told me I had a mild form of 20th century depression, I seemed to have lost that balance in life between work and play and living where I do I don't see my extended family that often.

Sertraline has helped enormously but it's one part of the treatment, I don't know if you make time for yourself but that's an important aspect of getting back on track and making you feel better about yourself.

Good luck Kenny and remember to use the forum as your not alone on this.

Hi are you taking sertraline for anxiety or depression and do you think the medication makes you feel this way. Idont think gps really have the time for these problems, i always feel awkward having to go and explain how i feel to my gp about my anxiety but to me it is worse than any physical illness i have had.
